I have a summer reading list of some 55 books that I want to get through, 10-12 of which I've already started, but just never completed. I am seriously wondering whether I'll have the focus to get through all the books I want to get through, but I am hoping that having a visible list (I have posted to my wall in my room) will actually remind me to do it.

Does anyone else have a summer reading list (whether it's serious or not)? Any tips to help me follow through on my mission to read all the books?

Can you list them? I'm in need of some good books to read. I mean, I have a short list, but it's mostly fantasy. I feel like I should be reading some of the classics or other famous, more serious books.

I read about 1 book a week, but only have one book on my list. A math book. I feel like pulling my hair out reading it. Well actually the reading is fine, they throw certain problems at me I feel like pulling my hair out to solve. I need to hire a Tito to get me on track, so I don't take extended breaks. I've determined to not take remedial course in math as they cost a ton and don't give me credits. If I can't teach myself a semesters worth of math during the summer, I'll bite the bullet and pay for class, but I won't be happy.

Sure. I'll type up a list soon--maybe tomorrow.

I read VERY sporadically (ridiculously so) but I want to finish After Virtue, the second Treatise on Government, and Being and Nothingness before the fall.

When studying a new language or skill, I give myself ability deadlines. Edit that.
Ex. Be able to rebuild a S&W MP Edition in a minute by june 15th.

Yeah, I've been thinking deadlines might help. I am thinking of finishing my list by Sept. 15th. If I read approximately 15 books a month, I could get pretty close to finishing my list.

Lol.

Read Mein Kampf last after you read these: Friedrich List's "National System of Political Economy", Houston Stewart Chamberlain's "The Foundations of the Nineteenth Century", Oswald Spengler's "Decline of the West" and "Prussiandom and Socialism".

Lol...I guess I can see that. I just use my list to remind me of which books I have and want to read. Otherwise I'll forget, lol.

I have my bookshelves, and if I want to read, I pick one have wallow in it all day.

Cool. My books are kind of scattered all over the place...I have too many to fit on the bookshelf I have, lol. I just keep my favorites on the bookshelf. My parents joke that I am going to become like those hoarders on TV, except I'll have books instead of random junk. Books are wonderful :)

They are. I have two full sized bookcases, a row of books on my desk, and a row above my bed.

Wow...Yeah, but books are great. I love the smell of books, and the feel of them...

Me too. They are good friends too.

Agreed.

And you don't need internet.

My List of non-modern fantasy books:

The Stranger
Cloud Atlas
Northanger Abbey
Beowulf
Jane Goodall (biography)
Drift
What Money Can't Buy
Putin's Kleptocracy
Antigone

Arabian Nights
WEB Dubois
Persuasion
Emma
Sense and Sensibility
Inferno
Creating Capabilities
Seeing Things As They Are
Civil Disobedience
The Jungle
Anarchy, State, and Utopia
The Case for Democracy
The Prince
In the Buddha's Words
Existentialism
The European Philosophers
Justice as Fairness
Dinner with Churchill
A Vindication of the Rights of Women
A Communist Manifesto

Yeah... um... uhhh... yeah.

In all seriousness, I would think it would be different for everyone. I would probably read books that were closely related so I could compare and contrast, but that would require finishing a book in the first place, which your post kind of implies is difficult.

I would also say that you should make the attempt to try and read even if you feel like you can't get very far. In my experience, its the initial step of actually attempting to read that is the hardest.

I am not sure if this is helpful, common knowledge, or completely subjective, but these would still be my tips.

I'd also recommend adding some Sarah Dessen to that list...
