I didn't read it yet, I just saw the character list and suddenly gasped at the lack of John Maynard Keynes. I'll read it now (If it involves JMK, Rabbits and lynching then it's sure to be a masterpiece!)

I got lost in the setting & intro when you started talking about "pressure on the ECB to expand lending or to broaden its QE program to rescue a disintegrating Eurozone", skipped the rest of that text wall, and started reading the dialogue. And then I got lost again at Bluesteel's part: "An expectation of lower-for-longer short-term nominal rates will, all else equal, reduce long-term rates and induce private-sector investment." Lol I have no idea how you wrote 22 pages of this stuff.

I was a bit worried about that... lol. The first five pages, as well as a few at the end, are stuffed with content. I had to get it in somewhere! The bulk of the story, though, is a giant brouhaha (totally an SAT-caliber word, btw).

Okay, so... considering that I'm really looking for feedback on this and the superfluous jargon probably deters people from reading this, here's a cheat sheet on all the economics crap in this fan fic that you need to know to understand it.

(1) The title and character list starts out murky if you don't know the history of the Fed. In simplest terms, it's the deliberative body in the United States that sets monetary policy -- i.e., it controls interest rates and the money supply -- and it is statutorily mandated by Congress to work toward two objectives: maximum sustainable employment (unemployed near the "natural" rate) and price stability (2 percent inflation).

(2) So the composition of the Fed, to which all the characters thus far belong, is as such that there are seven Governors, including the Chair, all of whom are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate and 12 bank presidents from the 12 Federal Reserve Districts. So, in total the FOMC has 19 members (though, at the moment, there are two vacancies on the Board because of GOP do--errrrr, I won't finish this sentence). Only 12 vote at a time, though the other seven still weigh on monetary policy and are influential in gathering data from and communicating with their respective districts. This includes, always, the seven Governors and the head of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, which implements open market purchases (i.e., monetary policy decisions). From there, the four remaining bank presidents rotate on and off each year. The current structure of the voting FOMC mirrors the actual FOMC this year, with the addition of two Governors.

(3) The introduction and setting isn't too important if you were able to grasp (2). Basically, the Fed, in seeking to stabilize unemployment, has to look to risks domestic and abroad because of the integrated nature of the world economy: a subprime crisis in the U.S. in 2008, for instance, caused a crash in the global economy -- what we call "spillovers." Those can take a number of forms, but usually manifest themselves either through trade or finance. Currently, China and Greece are in a complete pickle, and the implications are mostly financial in nature. Case in point, when another country is doing horribly, people opt to pour their money into a safe-haven currency: in many cases, that's the U.S. dollar.

(4) The discussion of federal funds rate futures contracts. Here's basically what that means. The Fed sets policy by adjusting one short-term interest rate, which serves as a benchmark for a number of other interest rates -- i.e., if that rate falls, other rates fall. It does this by buying and selling reserves during conventional times, but once that rate hits zero, it has to get a bit more creative in order to impact the long end of what's called the yield curve (which is, normally, an upward sloping line relating maturity duration to yields, with long-term securities being relatively more risky than short-term securities, and thus having higher yields). Federal funds rate futures are just market expectations of where the benchmark rate will be in the future.

(5) I could get into the intricacies of long-term interest determination and the whole "reasoning from a price change" thing, but I'd rather wait to see if anyone actually cares about that discussion (and I'm lazy and have food in the oven, lol).

(6) Same with overheating.
