This has been floating around in the hangout a lot lately.

Everything about this video was incredibly well done. The cinematography, the sound effects, the acting, everything. I especially liked the ending.

If some of your classes are like this you have thrown your money in the toilet.

You should ask for your money back and go somewhere else.
It's not your views that divide us, it's what you think my views should be that divides us.

If you think I will give up my rights and forsake social etiquette to make you "FEEL" better you are sadly mistaken

I don't think that would be the best move, considering that he goes to Harvard. lol

Even more reason to demand your money back.

The video specifically, but education is discussed from time to time.

Ikr. She did an amazing job of switching between being vicious and scornful and "innocently" looking for praise from the teacher for conforming. I wonder if they just got lucky or if they had to spend a lot of time looking for actors, because my god were they wonderful.

lol yeah I'm exaggerating. Although, In a course on the British Empire, for example, when asked to apply some of the themes to current events during section (discussion), there was a hovering expectation that certain actions by the U.S. (& U.S. institutions) should be perceived as paternalistic, and there was emphasis on cultural relativism in evaluating the political (& economic) development of countries (i.e. democracy isn't good for everyone).

The part about the video where they answer "multiculturalism" and "gender equality" as objectively correct answers to the math questions just kind of reminded me of that experience :P

How bad was it though? That video seemed to be flooded with conspiracy theorists and exaggerations in the comments section.

I don't see how cultural relativism doesn't exist to a degree though; some countries should be managed a little differently. Democracy wouldn't be good in a really poor and corrupt country, where people are too dumb and uneducated to vote for leaders.

lol not bad at all. Diversity of opinion was welcomed in the class I'm referring to, it's just that the opinions expected, expressed and commended tended to be liberal. That's all.

To your second comment -- In the U.S. we have scores of dumb and uneducated people who vote routinely. I don't believe that's a disqualifying factor for the suitability of democracy.

So what. A Harvard education will get you a job at McDonald just as quick as a high school diploma. I know a guy who went to Harvard, he is a boat mechanic. Makes the big bucks.

Funny you say, my dad dropped out of school after 7 years and became a boat mechanic too. Congrats to that Harvard guy.

It was a good watch. I haven't been to college for a while so the only thing I really have to compare this against is media I read and watch. Aside from some of the obvious exaggerations does a lot of this video hold true for today's universities?

Censorship at its finest.

You see, folks, this is an example of an Authoritarian education.
