Who else has verterans in their family?

My stepfather was in the army, air force, and navy.
My Great-grandfathers served in WWII.

My cousin is currently in the Infantry
My best friend is going to enlist in the Marines after we graduate next year.

Also, do we have any who are currently enlisted or veterans on DDO?

Most of my family is military based (dad, grandfather, mom tried to join but then they found out she was pregnant, stepdads dad and brother, My uncle's dad was in WWII, but he's English and doesn't count, and prolly a bunch more that I'm not bothering to remember right now, lol, and they all want me to join, against my morality because if the 'benefits')

From what? Not having oil companies get as much money? Us not controlling the world? I have no more respect for them then I do for complete strangers (I don't know them, maybe they were forced to by family or something, so I give them a hella lot more respect then my morality says I should)

Our troops are stopping terror and fighting to protect our freedoms every day and you should respect that

Grandfather was a medic during WW2. Two uncles in Vietnam. Three cousins currently serving. And a bunch of friends that have served and some still are.

No they don't. The National Guard protects the army kills, for little/no reason. They might THINK they are doing good because they are glorified, but I wont continue to provide that delusion.

Name a war and I'll have a family member or ancestor in it. My family believes serving in the military of any country is mandatory. Due to health problems, I can't enlist but I have gone to multiple boot camps instead. I've lost cousins and uncles over in Iraq/Afghanistan. My great grandfather was in WWII. My uncles and one aunt was in the Cold War. Great grandfathers were in WWI. It just goes on...

Today is actually a very special day in my family. We've lost a lot of family over the years and this is the day we remember them and go to their graves. :(

Grow up.
I am voting for Innomen because of his intelligence, common sense, humility and the fact that Juggle appears to listen to him. Any other Presidential style would have a large sub-section of the site up in arms. If I was President I would destroy the site though elitism, others would let it run riot. Innomen represents a middle way that works, neither draconian nor anarchic and that is the only way things can work. Plus he does it all without ego trips.

Agree with lovelife. Another good quote from Good Will Hunting:

Why shouldn't I work for the N.S.A.? That's a tough one, but I'll take a shot. Say I'm working at N.S.A. and somebody puts a code on my desk, something no one else can break. Maybe I take a shot at it and maybe I break it. And I'm real happy with myself cuz I did my job well. But maybe that code was the location of some rebel army in North Africa or the Middle East, and once they have that location, they bomb the village where the rebels were hiding. Fifteen hundred people that I never met, never had no problem with get killed.

Now the politicians are saying, "Send in the marines to secure the area" cuz they don't give a sh!t. It won't be their kid over there getting shot, just like it wasn't them when their number got called cuz they were pulling a tour in the National Guard. It'll be some kid from Southie over there, taking shrapnel in the a$s.

He comes back to find that the plant he used to work at got exported to the country he just got back from, and the guy who put the shrapnel in his a$s got his old job cuz he'll work for fifteen cents a day and no bathroom breaks. Meanwhile he realizes the only reason he was over there in the first place was so that we could install a government that would sell us oil at a good price, and of course the oil companies use the little skirmish over there to scare up domestic oil prices -- a cute little ancillary benefit for them, but it ain't helping my buddy at two-fifty a gallon.

They're taking their sweet time bringing the oil back, of course. Maybe they even took the liberty of hiring an alcoholic skipper who likes to drink martinis and fvcking play slalom with the icebergs. It ain't too long til he hits one, spills the oil and kills all the sea life in the North Atlantic.

So now my buddy's outta work, he can't afford to drive, so he's walking to the fvcking job interviews which sucks cuz the shrapnel in his a$s is giving him chronic hemorrhoids, and meanwhile he's starving cuz every time he tries to get a bite to eat, the only blue plate special they're serving is North Atlantic scrod with Quaker State.

So what did I think? I'm holding out for somethin' better. I figure fvck it -- while I'm at it, why not just shoot my buddy, take his job, give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard? I could be elected President.

Yeah, my family hates the British and tolerates the Spanish so we wouldn't get wrapped up in that one... Plus, in the early 1700's my family was still recovering from the break-up of Germany in the Thirty Year war and trying to keep our "estates" in order. ^_^

Define "our". American troops are less at fault than those in high command.

Personally I agree with most of the stuff the Irish army does, which is mostly, if not all, peace keeping. We're agreeable peacekeepers by all accounts.

So it has to be one extreme or the other? I'm pretty sure that is a fallacy, though I can't remember which one it is.

Nah, it took them like 300 years to get rid of the Brits, and we did it in like 8. Of course back then i would have been a them.
