This is comical, but the article doesn't tell the whole story. They do a better job of it on Spanish news. Essentially the Libyan people laughed at this idea saying it's just one dictator defending another. Chavez, Ortega have been sharply criticized for their support of Gadafi by Colombia at the UN.

I doubt that even if such mediation was welcome by Libyans the West would support it. They'd just as soon allow Mugabe to do it.

I figure that if there ever is any mediation, it'll come out of the EU first. Why? Because they're the ones that depend the most on Libyan oil, around 15% I think for the entire continent, as high as 30ish% for Italy. They're the ones with the most to lose if Libya starts to go up in flames, as both the US and Chinese don't rely on Libyan oil too much, under 1% of their supply, each.
