Republican governor Rick Snyder of Michigan has essentially taken away the people's right to elect local government. The Michigan House has already passed and the Senate is about to pass a bill that gives the governor the power to declare any town or school distract in a state of "financial emergency." When that happens, the governor will be able to remove all elected government there and implement an "emergency manager" who can "reject, modify or terminate" any contracts the town entered into -- including collective bargaining agreements.

Moreover, this manager can recommend that certain school districts be reorganized (absorbed by others) and has the power to "disincorporate or dissolve the municipal government." In other words the entire town can be disenfranchised. The government can unilaterally wipe out entire towns, and residents have no say - not even through elected officials.

Democracy has its problems, but this is worse.

the most important source for muslim Arabs:

"And thereafter We [Allah] said to the Children of Israel: 'Dwell securely in the Promised Land. And when the last warning will come to pass, we will gather you together in a mingled crowd'.".

- Qur'an 17:104 -

Any sincere muslim must recognize the Land they call "Palestine" as the Jewish Homeland, according to the book considered by muslims to be the most sacred word and Allah's ultimate revelation.

Maybe the people will actually start standing up against it. And recall the Gov and Senate members. They are doing this because they believe that the people will whine and cry but not really do anything.

This is still democracy...

just not quite as direct...

anarchy would be if the person's in charge of the person..

Democracy is Majority in charge..

this majority that's taking more power is just from a larger area... and represented in a less representative, single, elected person.

it's kinda like how the Executive branch says what drugs can be sold in a state...

Does the Exec. branch have claim to representing a majority... I suppose..

but Probably NOT in many of the particular states that they're acting...

and not as much as a legislative body would have claim to it.

Let's hope :/ I wouldn't mind driving to Michigan for some protests. It's not too far.

Be careful. I'd bet that he's waiting to see how Libya turns out (namely if international communities ever step in) to see if he can call airstrikes on the protesters without fear of any serious repercussions.

just kidding, of course.
