Even though Rhode Island already has medical marijuana laws (and something of this matter would be trivial), this is some pretty exciting stuff. I'm always filled with joy when the nanny-state loses ground on the social front.

Any thoughts?

Good direction. Every state that decriminalizes a drug is a step in the direction to total legalization.

Agreed. They attached a $150 fine for usage though ... I little harsh?

Relax laws=/=decriminalize.

Anyways, it's a push in the better step.

Civil fine with no criminal charges = decriminalization.

Good stuff. Not that I've ever used pot or plan to, but good stuff.

Driving while texting and making out with your bf/gf is hard.

Not having free birth control.

School is hard.

Ya, I can smoke pot and be praised and smoke cigarettes and be considered a villain and a blight on society. Just as long as we are being consistent.

Cigarettes are bad for you though.
But really I didn't know anyone for legalizing pot was against tobacco.

It is decriminalization because the 150$ does not leave a criminal record behind

Anyways, it's a push in the better step.
agreed. I hope for legalization soon.

The fall of Rhode Island is imminent. People will be jumping off of buildings, crashing their cars, and having ungodly amounts of unprotected, pre-marital sex. Productivity will drop and the economy will suffer greatly.

You just wait. Rhode Island is going down.

I know a man who lives in Rhode Island. He worked for the town of Johnston, where I grew up. He had a good 20 years or so going and was looking forward to retirement and a pension. Then he decided to smoke a joint in his car at the Dunkin' Donuts on Killingly Street after eating.

The offense cost him his job and pension. Looks like this law is going to be a very bittersweet victory for some of the people already victimized by the anti-drug culture.

And I wouldn't be surprised if the people who fired him didn't smoke themselves - they just know you can't get caught with it. It's an odd scenario to be sure.
