I know this will spark a HUGE argument in a matter of hours.

Do you think December 2012 will be the last year that Earth will exist? Sarcasm is NOT allowed. I want intelligent, reputable, and reliable exchanges; not extremist.

Personally, I do not think December will be our last year of existence -- and, no, I am not religious; and, no, I am not extremist. I am just using common sense. We've been on this Earth for over a billion years. Why would Earth decide to dematerialize now? And, besides, NASA's proven it wrong.

Dig up, re animate and ask a Mayan.
Ha not sure how you expect to get a serious conversation about a subject that clearly isn't serious.
Like asking to get a serious discussion from a Nicholas cage movie.

According to the Mayans:

- A planetary and galactic alignment will occur.
- The world will NOT end.
- December 21st is a day of celebration.
- It marks the beginning of a new celestial cycle and a new age.

What is sure to happen:

- Riots and looting.
- Stock piling.
- Political turmoil.
- Partying.

There will be a large solar flare though.

No, 2012 will happen in the future because it is already happening. We are nearing the end of 2012, and 2013 will happen soon :p

The age of man has fallen. Politics isn't even alluded to be about good anymore. We sell ourselves to nature, increasing entropy.

December, 2012 isn't a year, it's a month.

Sarcasm is NOT allowed.

I will SO abide by this rule.

I want intelligent, reputable, and reliable exchanges; not extremist.

lolwut? Any view that even remotely entertains the idea of a December, 2012 world ending proposition is an extreme view. By its very nature, intelligent, reputable, and reliable exchanges are out of the world.

...

Well, if you're not going to abide by your own rules...

1. No one is suggesting that the Earth will "decide" anything. The Earth is not a conscious, sentient begin capable of making decisions.
2. What, exactly, did NASA prove wrong? The whole Mayan schtick was never in the running to be "right." Even if it was, it isn't within the purview of NASA to discuss, since it has fvck-all to do with space.

The Mayan calendar saying the world will end in December 2012 because that's where it stops is as about as compelling as saying my Hallmark calendar predicts the end of the world in December 2012 because that's where it stops.

I bought some seriously good pork from a Mayan in Miami yesterday. He asked me to come to his club later in the evening with my friends and the girls I was with to party. Perhaps that's their method for coping with apocalypse.

Isn't it about time? Nah, I'm just kiddin' :)

I've been reading about it and they say we're entering the Age of the Aquarius and it's a time of intellectual growth plus more weather disturbances that will evolve around water... but who knows?

Some folks may be doomsday preppin' but I'd rather be here in the NOW and hope for better things, live life to the max because life is short, apocalypse or none.

People, this forum discussion was to be taken seriously, not as an invitation to submit jokes. This is a debate site. This is a place where individuals habitually debate with others. And I thought that by making this forum post, I'd be sparking an interesting debate -- one where my intelligence and knowledge would be put to the test -- not one in which people are sarcastic.

I personally (like I have said before) do not believe the world will end when the Mayans predicted it would, but you can never be certain. What if one of these crazy, radical, "insane" predictions were true? A lot of people would be proven wrong then.

Regarding the NASA comment earlier in this forum post, I am aware of what the organization in question declared; however, with all due respect, government sources or even government programs aren't the most trustworthy resources of knowledge. The United States Government has all the motive to forcefully and coercively deny the fact that the end of the world will happen on 12/21/12. Just saying.
