A clerk in a store told Oprah Winfrey a handbag was "too expensive", now we have an international racist incident. Oprah later tweeted that she wouldn't have bought the handbag because it was "too expensive", but hey, we are promoting a movie here...

RACISM, RACISM, RACISM, also starring Forest Whitaker, HATE CRIME, IT'S AN ATROCITY, everyone go see "The Butler"...blah blah blah.

The video clip I linked to shows two female drivers undergoing a body cavity search that had been demanded by Texas State police. The internal search of their bodies was illegal.

The reactions of these two women is illustrative of how many sexual assault victims describe their attacks: they seem to not fully grasp the shocking severity of the crime that has been inflicted on them until it is just finished. Given a few quiet seconds to reflect on what happened, these women are seen to grow less afraid of the police, and more certain that they have been very nearly raped.

The officer who attacked them conducted an anal and vaginal search on both women without changing her latex glove as she moves from woman to woman.

This type of police crime is normal in Texas, where criminality among officials is common. What is uncommon is that the two sexual assault victims in this case acquired the video evidence they needed. (In Texas, creating or possessing video evidence of police wrongdoing is a crime.) The victims used the evidence to hold these Texas police accountable... and became two civil rights heroines of mine.
