I saw this on the BBC, and here's another article about it: http://www.rawa.org...

It seems as if this kind of child sexual assault is highly prevalent in Afghanistan. Why do you think this is? What--if anything--can be done to stop it?

It least it wasn't one of our soldiers this time...

That was an atrocious reply. This shouldn't happen to anyone!

The prevalence is an indicator of how much help this world needs! We shouldn't be saying that "it should've happened to" but saying "It shouldn't have happened" AND "I WILL do my best a as human being to STOP it however I can!"

Um...when did I say that it was a good thing, or that it should've happened to somebody? I was simply stating some good news: that the perpetrators were not US soldiers. I agree that the incident should not have happened in the first place.

Oh... *embarrassed facial expression*
I thought you were saying at least it wasn't a soldier who was being assaulted.

And either way, it doesn't matter by whom it was done, but the fact that it should not be done at all!

Rather a solider who has lived for 20 years or so, than a three year old girl who will never know freedom from the trauma this has caused her.

I'm not reading the article, but there is a good chance the trauma won't be remembered. So, that's a good thing, right?

I think even a 3 year old will remember being brutally raped and left for dead bleeding severely. Even if she doesn't remember that, being shunned for having lost her purity will be hard enough.

I honestly don't know. Sometimes, I feel like a fascist government would be good for the region.. but I honestly don't know anymore. People have gotten into such a brutal mentality and care so little for each other that not much may be able to be done.

Desire + power & opportunity is the reason. There's a documentary called "The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan" that goes into it. Bunch of rich warlords and corrupt government officials essentially buying kids. It's fvcked up. But this problem is global. There are stories of how British MPs are involved in a massive pedo ring. Some of the stories are pretty brutal. And we all know the running joke about catholic priests. These are just examples of men in power, there are plenty of seemingly normal people who do this.

As to how it can be stopped? It's hard to answer w/o knowing why a person develops that kind of sexual attraction (are they born that way?). Perhaps greater punishment is in order. I'd like to see them executed personally. That may sound drastic but pedophiles have a notoriously low rehabilitation rate. I see them as human garbage with no purpose in life and as such should be dispassionately disposed of like the morning trash.
