Indiana has recently passed into law its own Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which allows businesses to refuse to provide services which would provide a "substantial burden" to the free exercise of religious beliefs. This law has been extremely controversial, with some people calling for a boycott of the State of Indiana, on the grounds that the bill legalizes discrimination against people who engage in homosexual or transsexual behavior. Others have said that it is necessary to protect religious freedom, citing cases such as Christian bakery owners who were punished by the state for refusing to provide wedding services to LGBT customers due to religious objections.

What is your opinion on the new law?

I do believe that my information is accurate. Or is this what you think people should do?

For instance, a large chain might shut down its stores in Indiana.

but that's impractical and would the chain way more than it would hurt Indiana

You do it by driving around it, instead of through it when you are traveling to California. Yes it will be costing you a few hundred extra in gas to do so, but God dang it, it is better than supporting businesses that have the right to turn away gay customers but will barely ever do, because you know.... Money and all.

I do think that this law creates potential for abuse, but some form of it is needed. That is, to deny Pastors and a church the right to refuse to do a gay wedding is anti-theism at its finest. At the same time, though, having this law apply to a Taco Bell is pretty ridiculous.
