As there has been quite a bit of controversy surrounding my views I just thought I would copy/paste this reply to Danielle from another thread. I feel everybody should see it due to this certain controversy.

How is that surprising? I actually am a jew by heritage and islam was just a stupid phase. As for socialism that was when I was just getting interested in politics. I then started to realize how idiotic it is. Whatever I am now(I'm not really a true libertarian, it just seems to be the closest label) is probably where I'm staying. I don't like dogmatism so my stance on different issues seem to be scattered.

Lastly, It's not like I'm on welfare by choice. I hate every cent of it. I would feel so much better earning my own money, but of course after more than two years trying to get a job I still can't get one. My family seems to think it's fine to spend welfare money on all sorts of luxuries. They don't really understand. :/

To be clear it's your family that takes welfare not you directly, right?

You really can't blame people from being a bit skeptical of your stances if they change a lot, and your petulant habit of closing your account periodically doesn't help much either. But, i read what you right with more interest now than once before.

I think I had a bit more respect for you when your political views were closer to my own, but that probably says more about my own personal bias than anything else.

No, I get it directly. However, my family seems to think it's perfectly ok for me to spend it on luxuries. Of course I feel hypocritical doing so. They don't really understand though. They seem to think that because it's "my money" that I can spend it on whatever I want.

My stance has only ever changed like once, alot less than some other people around here.

TBH I think if someone never changes their view it shows that they either are rationally perfect, which is unlikely, or they are developing as an individual. I used to be a socialist, when I was 15. I used to be a theist. I used to be a squirrel. I used to believe that Disney weren't evil.

Well, don't spend it on luxuries. I imagine that if you are getting welfare, you aren't getting an obscene amount, and so you probably don't have a whole lot to spend on luxuries.

Of course, I'm not saying you should only be getting bread and water, and anything over that is ebil. But when I was not making as much as I would like (and while I was on unemployment), I would get generic brand soda, instead of name brand. And various other things to save money.

If you really feel bad about getting a phone with welfare money, buy the phone then send a letter to your congressman with a picture of the phone next to your welfare statement. You may be able to help change things!

well, depending on the iphone, you can get them new for $49 now (but they still require a data plan).

Anyway, I'll respond to that thread, not derail this one.

Insert, it's not bad to change your political views. Mine have evolved, and frankly I would be disappointed if they didn't continue to. However it's hard to take any position of yours seriously considering you don't seem adament about anything. Even now you keep talking about what your parents think you should do with the money. What do your parents have to do with anything? Panda said that YOU are hypocritical, because you are a libertarian (i.e., you believe taxes are theft) -- so essentially you are stealing from other people and using their money to get yourself an iPhone. You simply cannot justify that if you are a libertarian, considering you don't have a job where you pay taxes into the system (so it's not as if you're simply taking your money back). You keep making excuses about your parents' beliefs which have nothing to do with what you decide to do with "your" money.

The important people do, you have the courage and intelligence to challenge your own views. Meaning that the opinions you do hold at least have some validity. You were just later than others in challenging yourself.
I am voting for Innomen because of his intelligence, common sense, humility and the fact that Juggle appears to listen to him. Any other Presidential style would have a large sub-section of the site up in arms. If I was President I would destroy the site though elitism, others would let it run riot. Innomen represents a middle way that works, neither draconian nor anarchic and that is the only way things can work. Plus he does it all without ego trips.

She lives with her father, and refuses to save the welfare money to get her own place, or work on getting a job, or more education, but would rather buy a SMARTphone with it.

I <3 generic over name brand tho. (then again that's all I ever drink, grew up a welfare child)

Anyway I agree with you. She should save her money and try to get out, rather than keep "stolen money" that she "hates every cent of" to go whine on facebook about people calling her out.

Fact is if your going to use welfare, especially if you are against it, use it for the purpose. To get out of the hole and contribute to society, rather than just leech off of it.
I'm personally much more offended by this one use of welfare money than by all the other welfare ppl I know.
Its right up there with a hobo begging for money, refusing food, and then going to get drugs when someone gives money.

Even if your scattered your against welfare, for EXACTLY the same thing your using it for.
Luxuries, not getting out of the hole, and fraud.

I also told my mom about how you "can't get a job" and she laughed and said anyone can get some job if they try for one solid month, it might not be what they want, but they can get something.

We both agree that if someone doesn't try at all, they shouldn't get welfare, at all.
