newspaper columnist?

I actually want to be one, and was wondering if it would be okay if I post my appeal letter over here to ask for your feedback. My chances, etc. Would it be risky?

You really would have to like to write, and take massive rejection, and also write about things you don't like to write about.

no. I tend to dislike traditional news media anyways. A lot of the are stories designed to shock and awe, not inform.

I'd rather be a blogger than a news columnist, even though there's no money in blogging. But hey, that's why I'm an engineering major, instead of a writing or journalist major.

I used to go to one of the top journalism schools in the country and on our first day the director told us that only about 10% of my class was going to make it into such a small competitive field. I changed my major he next semester, totally unrelated lol.

This is in reference to the competition organized by your newspaper,
specifically called "young editors". In this letter, i would like to
complain that the result of that competition has not been announced till
date. It would be highly appreciated if you clear the mess,
announce the result, or at least inform your readers that the competition
has been nullified (if that is the case)

Anyway, i think it would be unwise for you to depend on the short memory
span of the readers, because i, for one am not likely to forget this, and

i am sure most of the readers would not either. (*hint*: Please open your
Facebook profile, and open the related news on the wall.)
Please reply.
Your faithful reader,

Hi Aayushi -

We are quite overwhelmed by the response we have got. Our editors are
going through each one of them and that is taking some time.

Do bear with us and we hope to release the results real soon.
And no, our readers don't have short memory spans at all. In fact, they
are highly intelligent and always keep us on our toes.

Warm regards,
Team **

I guess my chances at this one are gone.

I pondered it for awhile, and I did take journalism in college about a decade and a half ago (jeez I'm getting old!).

I did write a very small political opinion piece that did get published online, but the $20 they promised to pay me was never received :(

I did have a job as a technical writer for 6 months. I also have a number of novels I started to write, but have not gotten around to working on for some time. I used to enjoy writing much more, but I had a mini-stroke in 2001 that caused a strong decline in my reading comprehension and writing coherency. :(
