I have a question for the older people here (30 + years)

Would you feel comfortable dating someone 10 years younger than you? Why or why not?

I feel it is okay if the younger person is at least 30, otherwise there is a good chance the older person would not (could not) respect them or consider them a peer, which is important for any relationship.

My mother actually had this problem. She is 49 and she was dating a guy whos age she did not know. When she found out how old he was, 30ish, she broke up with him because of age. He had a paid house, car, and secure job but the age was too much for her to handle. My brother, her son, is 25.

I'm with someone 13 years younger, and he chose me more than i chose him. There definitely was a period of adjustment in that there were so few common experiences between culture age and interest. Eventually i came to understand that the differences actually made the relationship more interesting and more to build upon, and the core values were in common, and that was what seemed to be the most important thing.

In some of the drastic differences in age, i tend to question the motive of the younger, because the older has quite obvious motives.

Does he have lots of money? I feel almost bad for jumping to that conclusion.

Why lol that's the reason hands down. It's not as if he's some well-hung, suave, debonair man. Lol he's close to 70. Young beauty pagent winners from Asia don't typically fling themselves after old men if they're poor.

There's isn't anything objectively wrong with dating out of your age bracket, but it certainly brings about some issues of convenience. The older person will probably die WAY before the younger one does thus leaving the problem of a depressed widow. Also, there is an experience difference. Obviously age doesn't determine intelligence or knowledge, however, a 50 year old will definitely have lived a different life than a 25 year old.

My Dad is actually 20 years older than my Mom, but it worked out because both of them look 10-20 years younger than they actually are and both have long healthy lives.

I'm 32 and my girlfriend is 23, it's been about 9 months and no major problems so far.

My mate Luke who used to come on here occasionally is married to a woman about 8 years older than him.

If your both mature adults what is the big deal?

Hm, I think that's a mistake... If you get along well otherwise, and are both mature and independent (which he clearly is), I don't think age should make much of a difference. But then again, that's easy to say from the outside.

No, but "rich" in the US =/= "rich" in the Philippines.

He makes about $40k a year, but since he owns his home outright, as well as a second home in the Philippines, he is fairly well off. That much money in the Phillies is quite a lot, so you could say he is rich. He new wife certainly consider's him so.

Dating or f*cking? I would totally do a 23 year old, but I don't think I'd like to date one. At that age they're just discovering themselves and you aren't going to last long in her life. At most you're a fling or a temporary infatuation. I just don't think there would be much substance, beyond the physical, to sustain an actual relationship.

Of course, I'm only speaking in generalities, so take it with a grain of salt.

Not always is the motive money and security. I've known a lot of guys, young guys that are just into older guys. Honestly i think they have some deep father issues, can't speak for women.

10 years younger then me would be 22-23.

The age itself wouldn't be a problem I suppose. The trouble is, I don't think we'd be at the same stage of life, so it would be hard to relate.
