At first, I would only feel weird after I had finished doing my business. But now, as time has progressed, I find myself feeling uncomfortable even while I'm watching. I keep thinking 'this just doesn't feel right,' and I ultimately end up just closing the tab.

To be clear, my uneasiness has nothing to do with any religious or moral beliefs I happen to hold. I'm actually a fairly liberal guy. But I've been thinking a lot about why I feel the way I do about watching porn, and I think I've got it nailed down to a few key points.

The first reason I don't like watching pornography seems trivial, but it probably has at least something to do with it: lately, because of my television blog, I've been watching a lot of TV. Not only that, but I've been watching a lot more critically, and I'm starting to really think about production values and the like. And while most of this thinking is done consciously, I think I'm unintentionally looking at porn and thinking, 'Wow, this looks really bad. This is not a quality production.' Trivial as it may be, port simply isn't aesthetically well-made the vast majority of the time.

My second reason for disliking porn is perhaps more influential to my thinking: most of the porn out there just doesn't look like a lot of often. Often times, the guy is extremely brutal, or else a total jackass to the girl. And while you can find more realistic sex or even solo performances, those still usually feel really fake, or if not fake, then not stimulating at all: most of the time the performers are doing it for the camera, and even if they're genuinely doing it for each other, I am not them, so why should I care?

Which brings me to my final point: sex is such a personal thing. Why would I want to see others doing it? If I want an orgasm right now, my imagination can do a much better job of showing me what I want to see. And moreover, I can infuse my imagination with the memories and fantasies I have--which usually turns out great, since sexuality is inextricably tied into who we think we are. If I am by myself, I am the only one who can express myself perfectly to myself, and no video can replicate that.

Obviously, what's ideal is to express your sexuality with a partner, to learn and grow with him or her. But that's now what I'm talking about here. All I'm doing in this thread is arguing against pornography--although, again, that's just my opinion.

What does DDO think about pornography? Am I weird for preferring to stick with my imagination? And, more to the point, what does DDO get off to?

Oh, f*ck me... literally. ;D

Gah... typos. You probably know what I mean, though.

I agree with this, although sex doesn't always have to be personal, it can be a purely physical act between two consenting adults who don't want any emotional ties.

There's such a wide variety of porn out there. The chemistry between the actors is really important, but there's such a wide range of production values, the degree to which it looks "real," power dynamics, and I guess once you get a few "favorites" it helps guide the process.

You bring up good points. At the end of the day, it's to each his own. If you don't like porn, I encourage you to not watch it and do whatever works for you.

For me, most porn is lame. Like you said, it's often brutal and really contrived. If the girl is in any way faking, I can't get in to it. It just makes me selective with which porn I watch, not make me want to boycott all porn. I like porn, I just have to find the right clip.

And as long as you don't tell me how to live my life, I won't tell you how to live yours.

How so? Do you never engage in acts solely for physical pleasure?

I would tend to agree with this.

With the general admission that at seventeen I probably don't know what I'm talking about, what's the point in mindless sex? It might feel good physically, but it also devalues the act of giving yourself to someone, and stuff.

The older you get, the more meaningless sex becomes, except for the pleasure of it.
