Anonymous caught a 30 year old British man who has been linked to child pornography websites.

What a perv this guy is.

"Anonymous, the world's largest hacking group, united by anti-censorship ideals, tracked and exposed the man who allegedly posted the photographs and harassed the teenager via Facebook."
Ironic.

That group is pretty pathetic. Then again, I have been harassed by people who have claimed to be anon so naturally I'm biased against them.

They're against government censorship, which is backed by violence. They are not against communal censorship.

More and more I'm finding myself weary of certain acts of internet vigilantism. So often it does far more damage than was done to the victim it supposedly champions, thus becoming the perpetrator itself.

When Anon go after big corporations, I am part of the collective cheer but some poor individual getting his life destroyed... doesn't seem like justice to me. A perv is a perv is a perv, but if you're smart enough to catch them, you should be smart enough not make a martyr out of them.

Ok, so you think that just because it's a big corporation, it's ok to try and make them lose millions, and steal people info, like credit cards, but when it's some sick depraved dude, it's bad? WTF?! You realize how many people lost their jobs and money because of their "righteous" attacks?

And what annoys me the most about it is, yeah it's all nice when it's someone that people don't like somewhat collectively, but being vilgilantes, who they attack is based off their subjective, and now hypocritical, views. It's retarded. Just turn him into the police, let them tpdeal with it. There is a reason we don't allow vigilantes.

The man has won awards from child pornography websites for blackmailing young girls into stripping on camera. He needs to be punished.

Yes, because the police are going to believe a "criminal" hacker group that sends them information regarding the fool.

Publishing his information ensured that he would receive media attention and thus be investigate.d

Which also would have worked if they just told the police by giving a anonymous(lol) tip. I seriously doubt they would ignore that.

Why wouldn't they have? Why would the police believe an anonymous tip about a cyberbully? How would they have collected the evidence? Anonymous hacked in order to obtain it.

You don't think they get a bunch of false tips for cases like this? Plus, you still haven't explained how they are going to collect the evidence. It's illegal for them to do so.

Have you even heard of the Stratfor attack? Where hundreds of people's credit card numbers got published?
