Just bought my first tablet the other day. I got a Kindle Fire HD, 7 inch.

What are your opinions on tablets and do you have one? If so, which one (iPad, Galaxy Tab, Nexus, Nook, Aseus)?

I remember when the iPad first came out I said "that's stupid, I'm never getting that." But right now, I have to say between my laptop, smart phone, and tablet, the tablet is the most convenient, efficient, and fun.

I like my Nook Tablet more than my laptop. It's so convenient.

I was going to get a Kindle, but I learned how to root a nook and did that instead. My brother has a Kindle.

I get free apps from this website that rips APKs. I love it! 4shared is what it's called.

lol! I said that too.

I was the same way. I still sort of think the same thing for the full size tablets but I have a nexus 7 and it's pretty nice, android is especially nice, don't know much about how good the kindle OS is.

What sold me on the Kindle Fire HD was:

- Its access to the Amazon Cloud so that I don't have to worry about physical storage space.

- The fact that it's an Amazon product and not a big brother Apple/Google product.

- Its superior speakers and Dolby Digital sound.

- Its one of a kind interface.

They all have their individual benefits, it was initially a pretty tough choice for me.

One thing that threw me off was the stylus. I was thinking the stylus was gonna be the typical hard tip stylus and when I touched the stylus to the screen I was like wtf, this is an oddly new sensation.

I haven't used a stylus in about 6 years so I was thrown off by the big squishy, round tip commonly used for modern tablets. Pretty cool.

I have an Asus.

It's excellent. It does just about everything my computer does aside gaming. But, literally, everything else.

I see that they're trying to market tablets as a go-between past phones, but before laptops, but I see no reason why they can't replace laptops altogether, and allow phones to become stripped and ubiquitously inexpensive as they were before. Perhaps then, people will stop trying to hard to fit in using their phones, and will leave them alone every once in a while, saving countless lives by concentrating on what they're doing, like driving or grocery shopping.

The Nexus 7 is the best 7 inch tablet out there, but look into rooting and overclocking the Kindle Fire HD because it still is a pretty damn good tablet, it just does not run stock android.

Great idea! Haven't thought of that.

You forgot they also have a Conspiracy Theories App, and a free subscription to Alex Jones. That should've sold it.

Already looked for an Alex Jones app, unfortunately that's reserved for the Droid Market. What is this free Alex Jones subscription you speak of?

Yeah, I didn't even know they had them. I'm used to just using my fingers now.

It's an absolute must for everything except FPS games (requires two thumbs). I got used to using fingers at first too, but you'll enter a whole new world if you get a stylus.

Ya they sell the kindle at cost don't they? It'd be hard to beat the value of a tablet sold at cost. Though the nexus is made by Asus and it's about as good a value as the kindle, especially being developed specifically as an android tablet.

I don't think smart phones are going anywhere, even though I can carry a 7' tablet in my pocket anywhere doesn't mean I wouldn't rather just have my phone serve both functions.

As for tablets taking over laptops I think you're right, the windows surface looks like it's nearly there.

I believe it is convenient. But I am not sure what I am going to do with it. I don't have a tablet, but I do have an old Amazon Kindle.

Loving my iPad 3. It's extremely convenient for browsing, watching videos and playing apps. It's not perfect, of course, and now that I have upgraded to iOS 6 I lost the ability to jailbreak it, which does make me sad.

I am on it right now!

How big is the screen and how does it differ from the iPad Mini? My step-step granddad just got an iPad Mini, it looked like a giant iPhone.

10.6 vs. 7. I would say it is more like an enlarged version of Samsung Galaxy. iPhone is too small.

I had an iPad for a while and I liked that it was small and convenient; I could tuck in right into my purse and browse the Internet. But I couldn't do much else with it (I don't know if it's because I'm technologically illiterate or because you actually can't do anything else with it) and I can browse the Internet on my phone, so I took it back.

I might reconsider it someday if the features become more useful to me. For $600+ it wasn't worth it for me. Funny enough, what made me decide to take it back was I took a picture with it, but I wasn't able to upload it as my DDO profile pic. It was like "What's the point of this thing?"

To me, browsing the internet through a phone is annoying as hell. Tiny virtual buttons, small screen that you have to keep expanding and contracting. The natural-ness of browsing from a computer is gone. I don't have an ipad and I haven't browsed the internet on one so I don't know where it falls on the phone-computer spectrum but I hope it feels more like a computer.

The size of the screen was the only benefit for me. It definitely wasn't worth $600. I'm not an App person and even now, the only game I play really is Words With Friends. I bought the iPad so I could download Keynote and take notes in class. It wouldn't allow me to download Keynote (it said I had the wrong version? I dunno). Maybe I blamed the iPad for my own ineptitude lol But I felt like it was too complicated for what it was worth.
