Hehe I do run cross now, thanks for remembering :D

I'm not awesome, but I am on varsity Cross country. Running is fun when you do it right.

There are some tips I can offer, from myself and from the best runner at my school (well, he just graduated but that is beside the point).

Run with you hands like this (http://blog.trysensa.com...)

Shuffle up your workouts. Some days run hills, other days long distance (I ran 11 miles on Monday morning -- it was storming so it was like hell). Have speed days; either on a track, tempo runs (have 2 hard miles in the middle of a 4 mile run), or fartlek runs (run harder than comfortable twice every mile in a 4 mile run perhaps). Fartlek runs are especially fun in a group, people take turns running to the front of the "pack" and people have to keep up with them.

Eat well, especially fruit, water, pasta, and chocolate milk. Have a protein bar (available at your local gas station) 90 minutes before race time. Gatorade is great after a race, if you add water so the sugar is diluted somewhat. I wish I could listen to myself here, my diet sucks.

You NEED to get enough sleep, 9 hours is plenty. Make sure your sleep quality is good too, make sure it's dark and mostly quiet.

After workouts, ice. I fill up a dixie cup with water, freeze it, then later apply it to my knees and feet, it works well. I would not use ibuprofen much, it reduces the gains from your workout.

Your mind wears out much faster than your physical body -- remember this when you are tired.

Lastly, run with good running form -- or else you'll become injured. (http://www.runnersworld.com...)
