What languages do you speak?
How proficient are you?
Why those languages?

What language would you like to speak, and why?

Je parle francais un peu.

But, aesthetically speaking, few languages sound better than English.

English, Irish and I used be pretty decent at French.

I'd like to learn Chinese. And about ten more languages so I can become an international spy. But my attention is lacking...

Irish? That's awesome! Is it your mother-tongue?

I speak English fluently (obviously), and I speak Spanish semi-fluently.

I want to learn Italian, and maybe Japanese.

However, I think English is the most cool language--the lovechild of Latin, Greek, German, Anglish, and really like every Western language.

I will say that Italian and Spanish are the pretty, though.

I also speak a very small amount of Danish. I used to be semi-fluent, but now I've mostly forgotten it.

Yeah I guess you could say that. My family are largely from what we'd call the Gaeltacht which is an area of Ireland where Irish is spoken as the first language, and though where I'm from myself everybody speaks English and Irish is largely a dead language, my mother is the principle of an Irish language school and crammed my head with a whole load of useless knowledge as teachers are fond of doing. But no it's nice to have it really, just don't tell my mother that.

Besides English, I took two years of German (but still am not that good).

Hablo espanol y ingles. (Accents aren't working on my computer).
I would describe myself as fluent in both languages.
I took Spanish for a easy grade and fell in love with it. English I was stuck with.

I would say I'm pretty proficient with English :p

I know enough French to get me by reading it. I know enough Spanish to respond in English or Spanglish if you habla mas despacio :/

Why those languages?

French is Canada's second language and I grew up in a bilingual province. I took it from grades 1-9, then in first year university. I would like to become fluent in it because the language is nice and it helps with jobs.

I love Spanish. It's a very easy language to learn, and knowing French, English, and Spanish is helpful in understanding new words you come across, if you know what they mean in another language.

What language would you like to speak, and why?

I think it would be cool to know Japanese or German.
yang.

Bosnian, Danish, English, and German. At German I only lack knowing words, but my flow/pronunciation/grammar, etc., is good.

Bosnian being a Slavic language, and closely related to Serbian/Croatian/Montenegrin, means I can speak all those fluently.

For other purposes I will likely get into Arabic. Perhaps French and Russian too. Russian would be easy -- again, Slavic language like my own.

This young guy from Bosnia can speak 56 languages. This was two years ago -- I recently read it is 70 now. He is fluent in many, but the rest he has a great grip on. Impressive.

In addition -- I can understand Swedish and Norwegian, but their accents make every word obscured. Norwegian in written form is nearly identical to Danish, but the pronunciation is not.

They were just a couple of quick lines my French teacher used roar out every once in a while to help us get what "je suis" and "tu est" meant/were used for :P

Indeed. I don't know if there are studies about these kind of individuals -- they might be hardwired differently. There's more to their skill than learning methods.

I definitely agree it's one of the top -- but serious candidates on the cool-factor are definitely French and Slavic languages. My opinion.

Ich bin lerne Deutsche sprechen.

I made a thread about it. I've challenged myself to learning it in 1 month. I'm on my second week right now. I think I'm making fantastic pace.

I'd like to also learn French and Spanish. And one other I haven't decided on yet.

Although I just realized the "bin" in my post was necessary. "am learning" is already implicit in "lerne".

I've stopped using google translate. I've actually gotten to the point that I can tell when it's messing up. Which it does so a lot.

The "zu" isn't necessary. But they both make sense.
