Yep, in a near copy of YYW's advice, I'm getting a 13 inch MacBook Pro. Right now I'm just getting the barebones, 1199$ laptop and am gonna use Google Docs/Open Office for my word processing and stuff. I can't afford AppleCare right now, but I hope to get it before the warranty expires.

Get applecare within the first 90 days... and welcome to the dark side.

Unfortunately not. Apparently edu discount only counts for college/uni students. Still in high school mate. :(

Fair enough. But congrats on the new Macbook in any case. That's cause to celebrate!

I would seriously advise against getting a Macintosh computer just for the fact that you can get a significantly better non-Mac for the same price.

What do you plan to do with it? Unless you plan to play a lot of video games on it $1200 is WAY too much to spend on a laptop anyways.

I bought a MacBook in early 2011. While it was very good overall, there is no doubt that you can get similar quality with normal laptops that are far cheaper.

Apparently the guy at the Apple store said educational discount works for HS as well.

Ugh, congrats on paying about 500$ for a logo. At least you got a discount so you didn't have to pay 700$ for it.

What's there to get? It's a computer they want 1200 dollars for that has the specs of one worth half that much.

That same money could get you an i7, a 2gb graphics card, a better motherboard, quadruple the ram, a solid-state boot drive, a 1+ tb 7200rpm hdd, and a bigger screen if it didn't have a little apple on it.

Based on his description of wanting something "barebones" he'd have been better off getting a Chromebook.

What, do you work for Apple or something? I can't imagine a happy MacBook Pro customer actually referring others to the same product.

Btw. You -since you're in school- should qualify for an educational discount...

Unfortunately not. Apparently edu discount only counts for college/uni students. Still in high school mate. :(

Fair enough. But congrats on the new Macbook in any case. That's cause to celebrate!

Apparently the guy at the Apple store said educational discount works for HS as well.

Signed,

Dninja on his new MacBook Pro.

Ugh, congrats on paying about 500$ for a logo. At least you got a discount so you didn't have to pay 700$ for it.

I literally love all the Mac haters in this thread.

"It's just a brand man!"

*says the people who just don't get it*

lol

What's there to get? It's a computer they want 1200 dollars for that has the specs of one worth half that much.

That same money could get you an i7, a 2gb graphics card, a better motherboard, quadruple the ram, a solid-state boot drive, a 1+ tb 7200rpm hdd, and a bigger screen if it didn't have a little apple on it.

Based on his description of wanting something "barebones" he'd have been better off getting a Chromebook.

You are not supposed to get it because you are not among the chosen.

I'm currently using my 17" MacBook Pro. This is the purchase I regret the most.

Why would you buy a 17 inch?

Because it's bigger than a 13". Why would you buy a Mac at all?

Because I am among the elect, obviously.

How did you convince anyone to buy a Mac...?

It's not about convincing. Those and only who were predestined to have macs, will buy macs. Those who are not chosen will never enter the holy land.

I've always thought Mac users were contagious.

Being predestined has no pathogenic quality.

Come, YYW. Let's not waste our times with these profligates.

Have fun dealing with bankruptcy then. I'll go be financially secure elsewhere.

Seriously this. If you can still return the MacBook I'd advise that you do so. You're admittedly still in high school and only wanted a barebones computer. A Chromebook will probably serve the exact same purpose as your new Mac, but it costs less than a third of what you paid.
