There are four simple yet important rules to this 10 Day Positivity Challenge

Rule 1. In the next 10 consecutive days, refuse to dwell on any unresourceful thoughts or feelings. Refuce to indulge in any disempowering questions or devitalizing vocabulary or metaphors.

Rule 2. When you catch yourself beginning to focus on the negative " and you certainly will " you are to immediately snap yourself out of it and change your thinking or state. You can do this by asking an empowering question, such as "What"s great about this?" or "What else could this mean?". Or you can reframe any negative thoughts that come up, for example, if you catch yourself saying "I suck", you would replace it with, "I"m awesome!" There are some powerful techniques that you can use in a blog post I wrote on how to master your emotions. In addition, you can set yourself up for success each morning for the next 10 days by developing a morning ritual to get yourself in a peak emotional state each day.

Rule 3. For the next 10 consecutive days, make certain that your whole focus in life is on solutions and not problems. The minute you see a possible challenge, immediately focus on what the solution could be.

Rule 4. If you backslide " that is, if you catch yourself indulging in or dwelling on an unresourceful thought or feeling " don"t beat yourself up. There"s no problem with this as long as you change immediately. However, if you continue to dwell on unresourceful thoughts or feelings for more than a minute, you must wait until the following morning to start the ten days over. The goal of this program is 10 consecutive days without holding or dwelling on a negative thought or state. This starting-over process must happen no matter how many days in a row you"ve already accomplished the task.

I know FREEDO will do this with me, anyone else want to join?!

Can I indulge in non-positive emotions about others e.g. Wanting to rip throats out, as long as I know I'm awesome? If not, I don't really see a point.

Like attracts like... It's the sort of effect you get when you smile at people---they smile back. Psychologically it makes you feel better, as your attitude is the only thing in life you can really control, and your positive attitude has positive effects on other people.

WSA, have you done this before?

Nope, but in the beginning of the summer I devised a quick 20-second routine that instantly pumps my state into a more positive, productive mode.

I've also been following some of FREEDO's happiness tips: Eat healthy. Exercise. Find the time to do things that are sentimental to you. Go on walks. Breathe slower. Walk slower. Hang out with friends and don't be a douchebag. Find a productive way to make money and either spend it on memorable experiences or on helping people.

Being positive allows me to give more value to the world, overcome adversity more swiftly, enjoy the learning process of failure, become resilient in entrepreneurship, and focus on solutions more than problems.

Tulle and I have come to the compromise that, as she considers me a positive influence on her life, I will continue to be myself for the length of her challenge. It's a win/win: she gets the positivity and I don't have to do anything haha.

As a side note, I have also recently started eating healthy, working out, reconnecting with friends, and being more proactive in my life. This is a happy coincidence.

Day 1: Many Challenges

Today was a difficult day for me to be positive. I found myself battling thoughts to maintain a positive attitude. My university listed me as an out-of-state student for this semester, which means a lot of work (showing tax forms, transcripts, dealing with business office). My last employee is leaving on Friday to move in at school, so I'll have to call 7 jobs I've sold and tell them that we will not be able to paint their houses this summer. My grandparents asked me to do 2 hours of yard work toward the end of the day.

I found that focusing on the solutions to these problems, irrelevant reasons for being happy (I'm safe, healthy, it's beautiful outside), and accepting them as feedback to becoming a better person helped me cope with them and maintain a positive attitude.

If you realize that ripping their throats out will lead to a positive effect on society and your personal life, does that qualify it as a positive emotion or thought?

I'll try this. I've been meaning to see a psychologist... Probably no substitute for that, but what the hell? It;s worth a try, and I don't have to deal with health insurance forms for this! (btw I'm starting this today :p)

I walked amongst a sea of dead today. I attended a requiem said at a graveyard, the Catholic Church at the forefront, twisting my words, and that pissed me off. All around me I saw people going about what I thought their petty methods of control, brought together by this organization that I see as driving a great stake into the heart of humanity. I was mad and I even went so far as to laugh when they hadn't enough Communion bread to go around. I then left the place alone and dejected, smoking my cigarettes on the walk back to the car, their songs not even having been enough to raise my spirits. However, along the way I considered the others walking with me: old people, for whom I felt great sympathy; this little girl who was talking about how the shadow she cast was bigger than herself; my cousin, who has lost his older brother to suicide, considering the bad of the world at times, and trying to drown it out at others - I thought of how he laughed and sang alongside his brother's grave, trying his best to draw my attention from it, but sitting alongside it all the same. I remembered that I am not alone in my heartbreak and though I might bear a greater cross than most people, that I am not any better than them for it. I was humbled and it was nice to feel human again.
