Has anybody had any experience with them? I read that they are really good for pretty much everything, so I intend to do them; however, does anybody have any advice on acclimation?

Why on earth would anyone take a cold shower? Why not take a comfortable shower, at a warm temperature, with someone else?

lol cold showers...of course.

Why can't there be something fun/tasty/comfortable that's still healthy anyway?

They only help to wake you up in the morning after you've had no sleep. I can't think of any additional benefits.

Apparently it's really healthy.

If you want a specific scientific article:

Also, it helps eliminate stress, which is nice when you're still in school.

Although having just tried standing in front of cold water for one minute, I can confidently state that it's really really hard.

I actually stay in the shower long after all the warm water is gone, essentially taking a cold shower, and I find that more comfortable than getting out before it goes cold. I'm thinking it has something to do with it being a more controlled cooling. Weird, huh? I've always been one for making myself as physically comfortable as possible, as though compensating for a state of mental turmoil lol

Well, I don't know about that. I know that in certain parts of eastern Europe it's a common practice to go from a hot bathhouse to a cold pool to improve circulatory health, among other things... and that's pretty invigorating, but certainly not taking a shower that is only cold. That would be miserable...

I just want people to be warm and happy... And I can think of almost no better way to achieve that end than with a nice hot shower with someone you're romantically attracted to.

I haven't actually. Will you go for one with me? I was actually talking about this new "I just want people to be happy" line you're throwing out fairly regularly, though. I can't help but feel partly responsible for it.

Warm showers are better for relaxation and body resting. Go for cold if you want more alertness and skin hydration - as well as blood circulation. Heat on skin increases it's healing effectiveness, while cold increases overall blood circulation.

Both in moderation are beneficial.

Nonsense.

Doesn't mean that the guy who kills bears can't also enjoy his time in the shower. Besides... eating bear meat is gross. Too greasy and mineral/barnyardy.

Does anyone know of a reason why warm showers are unhealthy?

It's not they are unhealthy; it's that cold showers are healthier.

Well, I don't know about that. I know that in certain parts of eastern Europe it's a common practice to go from a hot bathhouse to a cold pool to improve circulatory health, among other things... and that's pretty invigorating, but certainly not taking a shower that is only cold. That would be miserable...

If you do it everyday, you get used to it.

I guess the same could be said for regular beatings.

lol I guess so. Then again, they both make you tough sons of b!tches. If you can take a whole shower, not bath, with ice cold water, you have achieved manliness.

Why must manliness be connected to unpleasant experiences?

Cause evolution.

Nonsense.

Who's more likely to procreate in a hunter-gatherer society: the guy who kills bears with his bare hands or the guy who picks herbs?

Doesn't mean that the guy who kills bears can't also enjoy his time in the shower. Besides... eating bear meat is gross. Too greasy and mineral/barnyardy.

Not my point. Your argument was manliness =/= torturing yourself. If we define "manliness" as the ability to procreate, then that's clearly evolutionarily wrong. In relating to cold showers, I admit that the correlation and causation is a bit iffy. However, cold showers alleviate stress, and increase testosterone and sperm production (http://www.artofmanliness.com...). The last one is especially important for baby-making.

Inb4 today's society is different

lol

Ever try to shave in cold water? No... you've probably never even owned a razor.

I shave, bud.

Welcome to the man club, then.

Let me tell you, it's a cold, bloody, miserable experience.

Why would you shave in the shower? That's just weird.

It's more comfortable than over the sink... duh.

I find it just fine over the sink.
