I'd like to go to school next year. But I'm aware that FAFSA has deadlines.

The federal deadline for 2013-2014 is June 30, 2014. However, states have their own deadline. The deadline for California, the state I live in, is March 2, 2013.

http://www.fafsa.ed.gov...

What does that mean? Are they seriously saying that it's impossible to get FAFSA in California for the entire year of 2014? Wtf?

Any other information on student aid not related to this question is also helpful. I think I could very easily qualify for grants but I find the whole process of getting things set up to be overwhelming.

I've got zero advice, just that dealing with FASFA is a royal pain through and through.

I'd imagine in-state tuition in California is fairly reasonable though?

The deadline for the fall 2013- spring 2014 is March 2013. The deadline for fall 2014- spring 2015 will be in March, 2014.

I'd imagine the federal one to be a typo. How in the hell could you apply for financial aid for the 2013-2014 school year after that school year is over?

I would indeed expect you to now be unable to apply for aid for a school year that is in progress.

Excluding emergency aid, but that's more something between you and the school.

I'd always heard the state tries to make school affordable, more so than indiana at least which was about 5k a semester in state.

I think it means that you would only get aid in the middle of the school year. Which is pretty stupid.

June 30, 2014 is after the end of the 2013-2014 school year, and before the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year. It is in the middle of no school year, despite being in the middle of an actual year.

Does anyone know of schools, either physical or online, that you can start at anytime?

Most schools on the quarter system do allow admission in any quarter, it's just harder because it's unusual not to start in the fall, and the federal aid deadlines are still what they are.

Just enroll in Cal Tech's aerospace engineering program this semester and be done with it.

Ugh. Who wrote this shit.

How bout free online schools (that offer recognized credentials) for philosophy?

I know these schools exist, but not for the major I want. I may just settle for a different major but I'm really set on doing philosophy. It has better employment options than most people believe.

I've never heard of any such combination, other than "free" schools in the sense that the military or whoever pays for them.
