I need a movie to watch, or a documentary... or something that's calm, not too engaging and that will bore me.

Subjects that I've already Covered, to the extent that Netflix makes it possible:

The ancient world
WWII
WWI
Space
Mind-bending documentaries
China (like, everything)
Drugs
Animal Documentaries (that are not for kids)

Subjects that I've seen enough of:

Ocean documentaries of all kinds
The Civil War (my least favorite subject in human history)

Subjects I like:

Anything but stuff about the ocean, and the civil war

It's actually deeper than that. I do care about the Civil War, because it's what defined American history since it happened.... I just hate it. It's awful, and I hate the fact that there are still people in this country that believe the Confederacy should have won.

It's really the biggest problem areas in US history... and it's still controversial... and the fact that it is makes me think about why it's controversial, which is incredibly disheartening.

There will come a time when people like that fade into the annals of history... although white populism will always be a thing in this country.

Duuude.. the civil war wasnt about slavery... it was about state rights.

I'm not sure if this is on Netflix but I watched an excellent documentary today from National Geographic called "Secrets of the Nazca Lines". Here's a link on youtube if you are interested:

https://www.youtube.com...

WWII
WWI

There's a good BBC documentary called "The Necessary War". It generally is a defense of British intervention into WWI and supports the idea Germany is mostly to blame, but it obviously has a very, very big pro-British, pro WW1-intervention bias. I don't think it is on Netflix so here is a youtube link of it:

https://www.youtube.com...

Space
Mind-bending documentaries
China (like, everything)
Drugs

There's another good NatGeo documentary series called Drugs Inc. The whole series is pretty good, but they have an episode about Krokodil (flesh-eating Russian street drug) - it's not on Netflix, but it is on Hulu. You could also see it on youtube.

Animal Documentaries (that are not for kids)

Seen those too. Necessary war was good, which is surprising because WWI is not really my favorite subject either. It's right behind the Civil War.

Seen that, and there is actually a better Vice documentary on Krokodil that goes into slightly more graphic detail if you're interested. That's on Youtube.

There's a Buck Angel documentary in there IIRC, and that was a good watch.

Also "I know that voice" and "that guy who was in that thing"--the former is about voice actors, the latter about character actors.

Also, "Frisky Business" is a BBC show that's a documentary about a UK online adult item retailer.

I also thought the Helvetica documentary was amazing, but I am a NERD.

You're welcome! But a quick google says it's apparently a Lifetime UK show I guess? Narrator's british and it only got one season...thought it was one of those BBC "series" (how they do short runs intentionally as selfcontained shows). The point is, british television is different, and therefore scary.

I was pleasantly surprised. It's not a drama fest "reality show", it's just "here's this place, and they're doing this thing, and trying to emphasize bein' classy."

Coupling's "seasons" (series?) were like...6 episodes each time.

And yes, I realize that neither of those are Netflix documentaries. I was going to suggest a documentary on the New York Times, but it appears they don't have it any longer.
