*Cocks pistol* Am I the only one around here who listens to music when getting their debate on?

How about writing?

If you do, what kind? What about it is particularly appealing?

I listen to music all the time when I'm writing debate arguments. Even when I'm writing other things.

I either listen to classical, or progressive rock.

The intense suggestion that comes from it annoys me. I guess I could listen to classical or something though.

I mean, you end up writing your words on top of whatever song; and it's kind of hard to avoid that. Not that we're not always taking our words from the world around us anyway, of course; but you don't want it to be too condensed, right? ....Maybe I just haven't worked out a really solid style yet.

I read a really awesome thing before actually, which was the song Stuck In The Middle With You very sneakily written into story form, and you wouldn't cop it reading the story (or I didn't anyway), but once you got to the end, there was the chorus, the last few lines, and it was like the punchline of a joke, absolutely brilliant.

It all depends on what I'm debating about. If it's social issues then I listen to depressing music like Pegasus Device, Awoken, Monster (aviators), one last letter, bullet, and Wrong side of Heaven. If it's economics or space topics then I listen to Seether and Hollywood Undead. If it's a fun topic then I tend to listen to Linkin Park.

I always listen to music when I write fiction, it's like a necessity.

I feel that. For me, classical is a must for any kind of Romantic poetry (capital R, not lubby-dubby)

Same composer, lol. I like that track too, I just like the Celtic one even better. :)

In my experience, writing tends to match whatever scene pops into your head as a result of the music you're listening to.

That's why, when listening to certain Tchaikovsky pieces, I end up writing about blizzards and the like.

As far as debate goes, independent Rapper Greydon Square, bar none.

Definitely. Maybe you read my recent posts to Wylted in the taxes thread, where I said big business would 'railroad small business', next thing I was bowing out of the convo, saying I was 'out of steam'. But it's not just that it's down to images either (though that is part of it), but rather most fluid progression through expression; and this works with such nuance and magnificence that you can hardly control it. I'm fairly sure Joyce just said 'f*ck it' with Ulysses, actually, and wrote a sort of conceptual onomatopoeia around it, with no other recourse. It annoys me, lol. It does. I hate reading back over something and then looking around and seeing it.

Fast paced electronic music. Like the soundtrack from TRON.

Although typically when I'm on DDO, I've got Netflix in the background playing reruns of The Blacklist, Burn Notice, House of Cards, Dexter, The Borgias, or something like that.

When I'm feeling the need for HBO, it's The Sopranos or Band of Brothers.

I know that some people need total quiet to focus, and I used to be like that but now... not really. I can focus in total chaos... and sometimes it's in total chaos that I'm the most focused.

This, plus jazz fusion and soundtrack music.
