Tulle got me an inscribed fountain pen when I was accepted into grad school, but I decided not to use it until it's time to grade papers. How do you enjoy yours? Is dealing with the ink complicated?

I prefer fountain pens over ballpoints or anything like that just because you don't need to use any force to write. It's much more relaxing to glide a pen across paper than to have to constantly press down. Outside of that, the actual writing generally looks better, and there are some really great inks that look beautiful.

Filling pens with ink isn't that complicated. How you do it will depend on what pen you've got, but you're generally able to do it without much hassle (as long as you're careful not to spill anything). Here's a video going over practically all of the common filling mechanisms: https://www.youtube.com...

The pen seemed a little intimidating at first but I'm glad the ink replacing process isn't too complicated. I'm excited to start gliding across the page like a king. A goddamn king!

I agree with Rev, Niam's actions were rather scummy in his post.

By the way Rev you need to end 35.1 DP2, its been done for a few hours now.

Me too... they're really smooth, despite being 0.3 pens... the ink also doesn't smudge, which I really like.

Such an investment for something I don't use nearly enough.

When I write, it's for work, and when I write for work, I have to write far too rapidly to worry about how it looks or what pen I'm using.

I enjoy scrapbooking, so if and when I do that again, I may get a fountain pen to do it.

It's a shame, because I used to take a lot of pride in my penmanship, and I like to think that my handwriting is rather attractive. But, it's completely fallen out of use. It's atypical that anyone ever even gets to see what my handwriting is like, and most often, I encounter people who can't write or read script anymore.

The G6 is absolutely awful. The lines it creates break all the time and suffers from a great deal of friction.

My favorites are http://www.zebrapen.com... and http://penmodding.com...

When I do use ballpoints, I tend to use Bic Cristals. They seem to do the job consistently, and that's all that's really essential to me. Is there an advantage to these types of pens?

Fountain pens are generally easier to write with when you're used to them, but I can't say if it's a noticeable/worthwhile improvement if you barely write.

I really should work on improving my penmanship... my handwriting is really bad right now. I think I'm going to learn the Palmer method for the hell of it.

Oh, I would imagine so.

Sometimes, I consider penning an entire book on legal pads like John Kennedy Toole just so I have the opportunity to write it by hand.

Maybe, I'll do that, then transfer it to one of those expensive books with the rough, artsy paper for style and delish, and use a fountain pen during the rewrite.

But, man. When you misspell a word, it's just so excruciating.

I enjoy scrapbooking, so if and when I do that again, I may get a fountain pen to do it.

It's a shame, because I used to take a lot of pride in my penmanship, and I like to think that my handwriting is rather attractive. But, it's completely fallen out of use. I really should work on improving my penmanship... my handwriting is really bad right now. I think I'm going to learn the Palmer method for the hell of it.

I devised my own, halfway from writing with my left hand for a period and adapting the strokes. It resulted in a pretty unique writing style.

Do you experience this certain thing, where some days, the pen just feels different in your hand and your handwriting just doesn't flow the same way? And, other times, you grasp the pen, and it feels just so right, and your handwriting just looks magical?

Also, do you ever look at your handwriting backwards by peering through the back of a sheet of paper held up to a light source, and think that it looks so much better?

Sigh. I feel like I'm revealing far too much idiosyncrasy in this post.
