So i basically saw a kid getting pulled out of a car and swinging at the cops as they dragged him down. His mom was in the car crying over them putting him in handcuffs. I suspect either he's innocent or did a crime.

I felt pretty bad for both the kid and his mom. If he did something bad, it was stupid and not worth it. His mom for having to experience his son going to jail.

He does seem the type to mimic the hood life. It's stupid. You're gonna get in trouble for what? To see your moms heart break?

Jail isn't any big deal. Been there a few times in my wild years. Now prison, that's an ugly animal.
It's not your views that divide us, it's what you think my views should be that divides us.

Where I live, they don't even have a jail. I was just sent to a minimum security prison. After being in there for a bit, I now realize the cons are actually pretty nice and understand respect. It is the guards that are all diks. I have a feeling the assaults on gaurds would go down if they weren't such jerks.

I can imagine that the guards's behavior is largely due to two things:
1. Fear of the inmates
2. Their responsibility as guards to ensure that the prisoners strictly adhere to the rules and that no one steps out of line even slightly. Because of this, the guards simply cannot afford to be nice to the prisoners.

They go out of their way to be jerks. However some cases of them being jerks was due to them being overly strict about the rules. Their was no need for their level of strictness in my opinion

At the same time, though, being nice to the prisoners would undermine discipline.
For instance, let's just say that "Jimmy" is an inmate. "Rick" is a guard. Let's just say that Rick started acting nice to Jimmy. Then, they would sometimes converse with one another. Soon enough, they were practically friends.
As soon as that happened, Jimmy and Rick's relationship with one another changed. Rick was no longer the guy who had power over Jimmy. They were friends, on equal footing in an emotional way. Jimmy will treat Rick like an equal and show less respect for Rick's authority.
For instance, let's just say that one day Jimmy is caught smoking by Rick (don't ask how he got the cigarettes). Instead of being afraid that he got caught by a guard, Jimmy would just say "Come on, Rick, it's just a cigarette." Rick might let Jimmy off the hook, or even start smoking with him.
You get the idea? Guards have to be overly harsh with the inmates. They can't afford to be friends with them.
