Mum: "So <person> who has a boyfriend that she brings home all the time when her parents aren't there and barely goes to school got all distinctions? And you couldn't? How many people got all distinctions?"
Me: "I don't know."
"Well, you have to work harder. No more wasting time."
"Yes, I know."

===

"How much work I put in, to get textbooks, past papers... <Goes on to recite a list of people>'s parents get to celebrate whenever they do excellent. When will I get my turn?
<Person> placed 3rd in the SEA exam, and won an additional schol.
<Person> placed in the top 100 in the SEA exam, and is doing 14 subjects at CSEC.
<Your sister> placed in the top 100 in the SEA exam, and won <Competitions>.
You can do so many great things if you just put your mind to it.
I know you can do it, if you just try!"

Me: "Okay."

===

Mum: "Do you need other lessons?"
"No."
"Then why couldn't you get the distinction in Pure Math?"
"I don't know."
"You don't know? Didn't you study? Didn't you use the past papers and text books?"
"Yes."
"Then what was the problem?"
Me: "This year they changed the structure of the paper. They didn't bring vectors, but a locus question."
"So you didn't study that?"
"It never comes."
"Well, it did."
"I know."
"See what happens when you don't listen to me?"
"Yes."

===

I heard her on the phone: "There's always hope, but I mean, her results... She could still get an additional schol."

I don't think she knows I heard her...
But she was right in the next room...

===

I'm re-writing Pure Math for the distinction, but they will only let me re-write one subject... so I won't be able to rewrite Comm... Which means that my chances of getting an open Math schol have severely declined...

It'd be ironic if I topped the merit list in Lit, considering I am the only one who got a distinction, because I don't qualify for a modern studies scholarship.

*sighs* Maybe I should re-consider going into act-sci?
I don't know... I don't know what I want to do... UGH...

I mean no disrespect, but I dont like parents like that. Who think they can just tell you how everything has to be done and even if you try your hardest its still not good enough.

I have some tips for loci questions that could be helpful for you. Do you want them?

If you have as much as a distaste for your home as I think you do, you should leave home regardless of whether you get an open school.

I don't know the situation in Trinidad, but act-sci majors here don't earn *that* much because there are simply too many of them.

I understand it *now.*
But the last time it came in a paper before this CAPE exam was many, many years ago, so very few people actually study it.
It was one of those things that are on the syllabus, but no one cares about it anymore.

I hate the excuse for parents like this - that they are only trying to ensure success. In reality, they breed anxiety and tension, which is exactly what should be avoided.

Over-aggressive parents are what makes me cynical about the proposed importance of "family" in society. They just make their children worse off - they don't help them.

I got into one fight in Primary school, (which I didn't start btw) and to this day, I'll declare that I wasn't wrong. The VP even said he didn't think I'd have started it, and he punished the other boy. I still got licks, for getting into a fight.

I knew it was coming, so I considered running away. I made it up the road out of school before I realized I'd have nowhere to go, so I walked back in school, and went to my mother's car.

Me: "Okay."

"Yes."

I heard her on the phone: "There's always hope, but I mean, her results... She could still get an additional schol."

I don't think she knows I heard her...
But she was right in the next room...

UGH...

I imagine that it can be quite rough at times. Just ask yourself this question:
If your parents didn't treat you like this, how would your grades be?

I got into one fight in Primary school, (which I didn't start btw) and to this day, I'll declare that I wasn't wrong. The VP even said he didn't think I'd have started it, and he punished the other boy. I still got licks, for getting into a fight.

I knew it was coming, so I considered running away. I made it up the road out of school before I realized I'd have nowhere to go, so I walked back in school, and went to my mother's car.

That answer your question?

No, I still don't really get what you mean. I assume you mean that your grades would not be worse off.

Not really, no. My mum's kind of crazy but ... not in a completely bad way.

I don't know you at all, I just see that you post a whole lot on here. I'll tell you something that you don't realize at your age and you only really realize when you have children of your own.

The world can be a very harsh place. Living in your parent's house and having everything you need provided to you, means that you don't realize how difficult the world can be.

Your parents only want what is best for you (although your mom seems to have her personal pride linked to your performance - usual in certain cultures). They want you to learn to work hard and perform at the level you are able to because what you are able to achieve in the future is dependent on what you do now. They want you to have a good and prosperous life.

Some parents ride too hard, some not enough. However, until you hold a newborn in your hands and realize the awesome burden that has been given to you to help them and prepare them for life, you never quite appreciate what motivates your parents.

Anyways, don't be too hard on yourself. You're not the sleazy girl who doesn't go to school and has her boyfriend over when the parents aren't home, nor are you your sister. You are you with your own gifts and talents. At the same time honestly evaluate what your parents are telling you. Is this the best you can do or have you been mailing it in to a certain degree.

Best wishes.

I hate the excuse for parents like this - that they are only trying to ensure success. In reality, they breed anxiety and tension, which is exactly what should be avoided.

Over-aggressive parents are what makes me cynical about the proposed importance of "family" in society. They just make their children worse off - they don't help them.

I think rich white people in American typically have the attitude that your career is the most important part of life.

My child is an honors student. My child is a doctor. My child graduated with high distinctions. My child has a big fancy house. My child has contributed greatly to the medical field. Forget the fact that my child cheated on his wife several times, got divorced, is borderline alcoholic, isn't honest, and whose children are growing up to be rich spoiled brats addicted to heroin, and is pretty much a despicable piece of trash.

Putting out the fire by micturating was therefore a kind of sexual act with a male, an enjoyment of sexual potency in a homosexual competition."
