I am a junior in high school planning on joining the Navy when I graduate. I was just wondering if anyone had any stories or advice for me

If the sky's the limit then why do we have footprints on the Moon? I'm shooting my aspirations for the stars.

How is that relevant in any case?

It's completely relevant. If you join the Navy right now or sometime in the next 2-5 years, you'll likely be deployed to the Pacific to counter China's growing presence in the region.

I love my country and I've always loved boats and the water and whatnot. I have looked into other branches and I feel like the navy is the best for me. No disrespect to any other branches

Why not the Marines?

I have a lot of family who have been in the navy. Plus it just meets my interests a lot more. Marines are badass, don't get me wrong. But I have plans outside the navy I want to accomplish as well

My brother graduated from Texas A&M, and joined the Navy, after being in ROTC, at college. He became an officer shortly after that, and 20 years later has the rank of "Commander", he last served on the USS Kitty Hawk. First 5 years, he was in Japan, and his wife got a job as a teacher, teaching English to Japanese children. He did 1 tour in Desert Storm, and 2 in Iraq (he flew EA-6 surveillance radar jamming jet). Then he was stationed either West Coast or East Coast on and off for the past 15 years. Robby (my brother), got to work at the Pentagon for a couple years, and then he taught at the Naval War College for awhile. He has travelled all over the globe, and I have always been jealous, that I never opted to serve in the military. The long term benefits are amazing (pension), he's definitely well off, and is a father to 4 beautiful girls. I am definitely proud of what he's accomplished. If you want a world experience, and want to serve your country, then the Navy is a great choice, and I wish you well.
