In my experience the people who are narrow-minded seem very hard to get along and have a simple conversation with. Can anyone give me some advice on how to talk or persuade people who have very strong one-sided opinions?

And I don't think ignoring them helps with the issue.

Ignoring them is ideal. Do that if you can.

If you can't, you need to figure out what they want and give it to them. For example, if they want to be the smartest person in the room, ask them questions about their area of expertise (this boosts their ego, and they'll appreciate your interest).

You also need to identify any issues of contention between you, and steer the conversation away from them.

Above all, keep a level head and don't become emotional.
