I usually have a hard time asking for gifts because I tend to already have everything that I need, so usually I just get gift cards or clothing. This year, however, I made it a point to ask for a Punching Bag. I've been wanting to turn my garage into a gym for some time now - and already have a bench and dumbbells ranging from 5 - 35 lbs. so a punching bag would be the perfect addition. Here's to hoping that Santa comes through for me!!

How about you, did you ask for anything in particular this year? Do you want something this year but don't think you'll get?

... do you *gasp* not celebrate Christmas?!! (Regardless, what would you want if you did celebrate Christmas?)

Who is in your gift-giving circle? Family and friends?

I never know what to ask for anymore. When I was younger, I'd usually ask for video games. As I got older, that became books. Now, I'm at the stage of my life where it should become clothes, but my closet is pretty full. My work life is such that I just don't have time for hobbies anymore, and I've purposefully kept my tv and game consoles in storage so as not to distract myself. At this point, I prefer to be surprised. The more personal the gift, the better.

That would include my immediate family (siblings, parents, grandparents, and the one aunt who lives locally), as well as my one roommate who I've been friends with since highschool. Usually for family members out of state I'll just send cards and vice versa.

I never know what to ask for anymore. When I was younger, I'd usually ask for video games. As I got older, that became books. Now, I'm at the stage of my life where it should become clothes, but my closet is pretty full. I was in the same boat, when younger I'd ask for video games or other hobby-related gifts. Come college those gifts turned into books, gift cards, and clothing. The last year or two it's just been what they think I'll like since I don't really make any requests. My dad knows me really well though, so his gifts have always been great even when I don't ask for anything.

I do agree, 100%, that personal gifts are the best. I give my mom a poem most years and it drives my siblings crazy how she'll appreciate it more than any gift they get her. I try to make all my gifts personal or meaningful in some way.

I asked for two pairs of shoes that I really liked, a Benedictine medal t-shirt, a new case for my Itouch, and for some sort of Catholic item, whether that be a medal, t-shirt, socks, icon, whatever.

I already got the bulk of my gifts - money. I bought a pen and two sport coats. I'll probably be getting some more money in the next few days, which I'll probably put into more clothes or maybe another pen, depending on the amount.

Nice choices! What's an Itouch though?

Also, what brand of shoes did you ask for?

That's cool, I never complain when I get money as a gift haha. You and your sport coats though... what brand/color/pattern... details plz.
I actually bought everything used/on Ebay. In total, I spent $200, shipping included.
Sport Coat 1: Plaid Camelhair ($21.25 w/ shipping)
Sport Coat 2: Plaid Wool ($41.06 w/ shipping)

These both are Brooks Brothers. I got the camelhair one in the mail today, actually, and it fits really well (though my tailor may be able to fix it up a bit more). Even if I spend like $70 on tailoring each, I'll still have well-fitting jackets that otherwise would cost, like, $600+ each. Not a bad deal at all.
I have a set of Mont Blanc pens that I am fond of. I've only used it twice, and am trying to save it for when I am a lawyer.

What model are they?
I ordered my first (albeit vintage, but I prefer that anyway) Montblanc, which is exciting. Here's the full listing of the pen I got: http://www.ebay.com...

I already got the bulk of my gifts - money. I bought a pen and two sport coats. I'll probably be getting some more money in the next few days, which I'll probably put into more clothes or maybe another pen, depending on the amount.

Those are nice! If I can be honest, I've never really seen the appeal of plaid but I really like the pattern of those two. Maybe it's just because I have this generic image in my mind whenever I think of plaid: http://cdn.wrangler.com...

I have a preference for Brooks Brothers as well, it's a great brand and you really can find great deals online.

That's a very nice one. The first one I received was a gift from my step-father back in 2011 and is the same model # as this one: http://www.jomashop.com...

and then I wanted a fountain pen to balance my budding collection (lol) so I bought this myself from my step-father's collection (he let me have it for $200) about a year ago (going by model # again): http://www.jomashop.com...

that's actually as far as my collection goes, but hey - it's a good start.

Yeah, I HATE that kind of bastardized plaid. In general, plaid shirts are disgusting. I like the "legitimate" plaid, though, and I want more casual jackets to wear day-to-day.

I actually have like six jackets that I can wear now... I just need more pants and socks now honestly. I'm taking my biz-caz to the next level.

I buy 90% of my stuff from them. Really, really great.

Man the nib on that thing looks killer. Why don't you write with it now?

My jacket game would probably be more on-point if I lived somewhere further north. I just have two custom tailored suits and then two sport jackets (not sure what brand, but one is black and one is dark-blue, real basic) for formal events.

Well, I've used it twice. The first time was when I hand-wrote my living will and my last will and testimony, and the last time was when I spent like 3 days straight writing in this personal journal I have that I kinda turned into a how-to book for my first born son. It features various quotes from important historical figures, tips on what plants to use in a garden depending on season and climate, family history and tidbits, advise for dating, working in groups, etc. (it's a work in progress)

I just have this thing in my mind that I want to reserve the best pens for the most important documents, lol. One of the many little quirks I have.

At this point, I prefer to be surprised. The more personal the gift, the better.

I feel like I'm at this point myself. I'm thinking of just asking people for more modern appliances(microwave, coffeemaker, etc.) and house decorations.

Haha that's funny. I also sometimes write my mom poems for Christmas or her birthday. 100% chance of tears lol.

The best gifts I've gotten from recent memory are a bobblehead in my likeness from my mom and a drawing of me from tulle. The unexpected gifts are the ones you end up remembering.

That's probably the smartest move. I've started looking at gadget sites for ideas haha

I want 8 hours of continuous sleep. You can never realize how precious that is until you have 3 kids under 5. I love them all dearly, but for the love of God let your father get some sleep! I dream of a nice relaxing sleep. Then I could wake up in the morning, have a croissant and a coffee in silence while I read the paper with a beautiful sunrise...

That being said, given the general and increasing bouncing-off-the-wall-energy coming from the kids this year, it ain't gonna happen on Christmas eve! LOL.

Haha, well I'm sure I'll be able to appreciate that wish more once I have kids of my own someday. My dad did tell me once how he used to sleep in on the weekends, but that ever since having me and my sister he can't help but wake up at 6 am out of habit.

I'll be in Florida just before the New Years BOT. Let's get some gloves and turn each other's faces into punching bags!
