What's your background in philosophy?

Do you think theism is an intellectually respectable position?

Why don't you accept the unsoundness of the ontological argument for moral realism? :P

Who are your top 5 favorite members on the site?

Are there any topics you're in the mood to debate atm?

If you became dictator of the world for a single day, what would you do?

How many lives have to be at stake before it becomes morally permissible to kill a single innocent person in order to save them?

Hobby

Do you think theism is an intellectually respectable position?

It can be, it doesn't have to be. Depends on the justification the theist has. I don't intellectually respect the theism of some townsfolk who merely believe because they were told to by their parents. I do respect the theism of someone like Van Inwagen.

That goes for all beliefs, not just theism.

Why don't you accept the unsoundness of the ontological argument for moral realism? :P

If you intend to do more than just say "no, it doesn't" then I am going to respond.

Who are your top 5 favorite members on the site?

None, really. I like everyone I interact with on a regular basis.

Are there any topics you're in the mood to debate atm?

Monistic Idealism CON (I always wanted to debate that one argument I see thrown around on DDO)
Moral Realism PRO
Animal Rights PRO
Existence of God CON

If you became dictator of the world for a single day, what would you do?

Deport Drumpf

What is your assessment of the Syrian Migrant Crisis?

I think it's a shame how many extrem right wing groups and ideas have been sparked by it.

Reading comments like "fortunately the railroad tracks to Auschwitz are still intact" make me genuinely sad and angry.
The same goes for the straight up lies people like Trump tell about what is happening over here and how popular some of the right wing propaganda seems to be overseas.

I work in a refugee camp in my spare time. Most of them are really nice people and we should do more to support them.

Chemistry. I want to research either synthesizing natural products or quantum mechanical effects in organic molecules.

I would really like to visit Sweden again. Never have I seen such a beautiful and unspoiled nature

My physical and mental health. Without it I couldn't do any of the things that give my life meaning and I can't imagine living without being able to make music, casually interact with my friends and family or study.

If you intend to do more than just say "no, it doesn't" then I am going to respond.

Lol, I think you're just missing the point of my critique. I'll try explaining it more clearly. It boils down to this -- the argument doesn't lead to a prescriptive conclusion, which is problematic because Moral Realism is inherently prescriptive. In order for the argument to prove what you want it to prove, its conclusion would have to be something along the lines of "we ought to avoid action X."

But that is not the case. The argument's conclusion is that, due to possibility of action X being immoral, avoiding action X is the *rational* choice to make (in accordance with the logic of the PRP). However, that is a purely descriptive statement -- there's no "ought" in rationality. Just because a particular action is rational doesn't mean we have any moral obligation to do it.

You actually didn't disagree with me on this... you merely referred me to the "second part" of the argument, but I read it, and it does nothing to bridge the gap between the descriptive nature of the conclusion and the prescriptive nature of moral statements.

Why don't you accept the unsoundness of the ontological argument for moral realism? :P

If you intend to do more than just say "no, it doesn't" then I am going to respond.

I'll respond to that in the philosophy forum.

If you became dictator of the world for a single day, what would you do?

Deport Drumpf

To where?
Southside of his glorious wall.

How many lives have to be at stake before it becomes morally permissible to kill a single innocent person in order to save them?

12.16 with an absolute error of +-0.44

Can I see the derivation for that?

No. It's mine.
