This is my first and probably only one. I reserve the right to not answer any questions or answer in a legalese and overly diplomatic manner to the point of uselessness if we're not on good terms and you ask me stuff like what I think of you. You are welcome to try all the same :)

I may prefer to answer some through PMs if I'm okay sharing that information with the questioner but not with the general public.

With that said, ask away! I'm looking forward to this.

Honest opinion on who would win in an all out war: Jedi or Wizards a la Harry Potter?

I like the Star Wars movies but I'm going to have to go with Harry Potter. I'm part of that unique age group that grew up as the Harry Potter series was being released so I have a sentimental attachment to the series. Didn't hurt that I lived with my aunt and uncle during my teenage years. Even after the series concluded, I did extra research for my own amusement about the literature, writing style, and themes. I believe it'll be a classic in the next century. But I digress. Harry (or any wizard) would easily use Expelliarmus to disable the Jedi's light saber which leaves him free to attack the Jedi any way he wants.

Love alternative rock. Any of the Foo Fighters or the Chili Peppers albums from the nineties and the early 2000s.

Honest opinion (if any).

Uh... force attacks...? Also, it's confirmed that experiences force sensitives create force shields, which is why fights aren't so easily (and quickly) done using something like force choke. That may or may not repel magic attacks. I'd say it would, since the force is basically space magic.

Conception of god:

God? What's that?

What theory on the origin of life on earth do you think is most true:

Abiogenesis is the most scientifically reasonable explanation.

Position on creationism-abiogenesis controversy:

There is no "controversy." Creationism is a nonsense idea that belongs in the crackpot pile along with the "flat-earth theory," "faked moon-landings theory," and the "9/11 was engineered by the US government" theory.

Position on the creationism-evolution controversy:

What "controversy?" What is your position on the "gravity- no gravity" controversy? Does gravity exist?

What do you think happens when you die:

Your body is buried in a cemetery. If you made a mark on the world, your legacy will live on. But it's in everyone's best interest to live life to the fullest and extend it as much as possible.

Most hated religion:

I find all of their beliefs equally stupid but will defend their right to believe and practice what they want all the same. I'm strongly against discriminating against religions - for instance, banning a certain religion and only allowing others. Freedom to practice (or not practice) any religion is an important American value.

Opinion on human nature:

That's a tough one. People are like ants. Individually, we can only achieve a limited amount of progression. But as a society, we've come so far from our nearest primate relatives. What we can do as a society is limitless.

Political ideology:

Democrat.

Presidential candidate:

Bernie Sanders.

Most hated political ideology:

Probably some of the ultra-conservative/bigoted ideologies. Trump, the Tea Party, the KKK, evangelicals, etc.

Opinion on feminism:

Men = Women. Most people who consider themselves feminists advocate that and I agree. Some radical people who also label themselves feminists advocate for women > men. Obviously, I'm against that.

Preferred form of government:

Current US government (democratic republic) is perfect. I'm sure there are better systems but I've never worked out the details in my mind as to how such a system would be implemented.

Preferred economic system:

Free market capitalism with some elements of a social welfare state (Health care, law enforcement, emergency services fall under this category for me). I'd also support heavy taxes on the top 1% very rich people and enough regulations on businesses so that monopolies are reduced and it's truly a free market. I'd want to cut down on barriers to entry in various industries.

City:

A big one.

Country:

United States.

Mother's maiden name:

Airmax (I used it as a separate account when I wanted the moderator position but innomen won't let me have it so I thought a "clean" account would work). Whenever I want to speak frankly, I use this account, and when I want to build relationships and be diplomatic, I use the Airmax account.

Birthday:

Don't really celebrate it anymore but as a kid/teen, it was wonderful.

Age:

See my profile. It's approximate, not exact. Give or take a couple of years. It's guaranteed accurate to that extent.

Zodiac sign:

I like them all.

Browser user agent:

Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer in that order. I use them all.

Current education level:

College graduate.

Assessment of academic performance:

Good.

Do you think you are intelligent:

Yes.

Assessment of quality of life:

Quality is in the eye of the beholder.

Assessment of level of happiness:

It's complicated?

Attempted suicide:

No.

Lost the will to live:

No.

Number of "good friends":

Some.

Were you a part of a clique in school? Describe it:

My high school didn't have very well-defined cliques but I was part of a group of people who all joined the school during the same year and enjoyed playing soccer after school.

Historical person you most admire (could be current):

Historical: Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin.

Current: Barack Obama, Richard Branson, the founders of google (Sergey Brin and Larry Page).

Employment Company:

A big one.

Occupation:

A job not currently in my field.

Height:

"Being myself" and "owning it."

Weight:

Enough to bench-press 100lbs.

Blood type:

Red.

Favorite color:

Metallic blue, Silver, White, Black, Dark blue, Lime.

Favorite song:

Unthought known (Pearl Jam). Aint it Funny by Jennifer Lopez is a guilty pleasure as well.

Favorite TV show:

Now that's a question I can answer in detail because I love watching TV.

I prefer the Action genre. Burn Notice and 24 were my favorites in that regard. But there are so few pure action shows that are really good partly because they require a lot of money and it's hard to make a decent one on a smaller budget. The Last Ship (TNT) is amazing. I of course love Game of Thrones.

Second favorite genre is workplace drama (mostly legal/police procedural). My favorite is Chicago Fire though which is neither. Other shows I like are Law and Order (SVU, Trial by Jury, as well as the original Law and Order). The Practice was an amazing legal drama in the early 2000s which I only saw the first three seasons of and I can't find the later seasons anywhere. Madam secretary on CBS is a guilty pleasure as well. I love political dramas with a white house setting (24 was also great in this regard).

Third favorite genre would be reality shows. Business orientated shows interest me the most. Shark Tank is my favorite. I love that it's genuine and the high stakes deals that the sharks enter into. Learned quite a bit about pitching businesses as well. The original version of The Apprentice was fun to watch but the celebrity version is a bit too gimmicky for me partly because they're not actually competing for real jobs. Cooking shows are fun too - masterchef and masterchef junior mostly. Also thought Kitchen Nightmares was fun.

For whatever reason, I don't find "comedies" at all funny although "Fresh off the boat" is an exception. Dislike sci-fi as well but I really enjoyed Battlestar Galactica. Abandoned shows that I enjoyed are "Freaks and Geeks" and "Last Resort."

Favorite video game:

I like the older ones. Also like racing, don't like the mainstream shooting games.

Favorite mythological creature:

I don't read mythology.

Favorite movie:

The Lord of the Rings series for its brilliant graphics. "The Fugitive" is an old classic that I remember enjoying quite a bit. I'm sure there are others. I'll add them when they come to mind.

Current US government (democratic republic) is perfect. I'm sure there are better systems but I've never worked out the details in my mind as to how such a system would be implemented.

Preferred economic system:

Free market capitalism with some elements of a social welfare state (Health care, law enforcement, emergency services fall under this category for me). I'd also support heavy taxes on the top 1% very rich people and enough regulations on businesses so that monopolies are reduced and it's truly a free market. Favorite song:

Best friend on this site:

People come and go. Out of the active members, FourTrouble's someone I enjoy playing mafia with a lot.

Raisor, I respect for his debating ability (I learned tons when I debated him), and also his very succinct votes that hit the nail on the head and provide excellent feedback.

Love interacting with Maikuru as well. Always provides a reasoned, laid back discussion on even the most controversial topics.

Tulle is another amazingly passionate and genuine person who isn't afraid to speak her mind. She's like the yang to Maikuru's yin.

TUF is also an overall really great guy with such a friendly personality who tends to just go out there and get what he wants. Its been impressive to see how he grew from when I first met him to then joining the military and going out on a limb to help DDO.

Can't forget Airmax whose hard work I've seen firsthand over many years.

Out of people that aren't really here now - I have immense respect for Drafterman/TheGreatAndPowerful. I've never seen anyone conduct themselves with such an impeccable level of integrity on a website. This is apparent when he's playing and running mafia games but it also extends to personality in general.

I also really miss BlackVoid. He stays out of major site issues but is the guy who I can just (figuratively) hang out with and chill and he reminds me of some of my best friends irl who are also very laid back. He's also the guy that played a big part in me staying on this site for so long and making such a huge impact. After my first few debates, I was going to stop using this site, but then I debated BlackVoid, took part in a New Member tournament that he organized and ran, and I was hooked.

This is a tough one but I'd say, one free of hate and bigotry where people of all kinds of backgrounds intermingle with each other.

Knew I had forgotten someone.

Bluesteel - this guy is so much of a go-getter that it impresses me. Whatever he sets his mind to, he makes it happen and his communication skills and rhetoric are unparalleled. I've had a lot of great discussions with him on debates, votes, and in the forums, and of course mafia. Co-modding with him was also really fun. He's the kind of person who I expect would be incredibly successful in real life. I really miss his impact on the site and just how much more fun he made it.

Have you ever debated formally? If so, which style? Did you enjoy it?

I'm sleepy so I'll answer Maikuru's and Romanii's heavy content stuff tomorrow.

At 3/19/2016 6:19:28 AM, lamerde wrote:
Should Hermione have ended up with Harry or Ron?

Ron. I subconsciously knew she'd end up with Ron and that Harry would end up with Ginny as early as the middle of book three. I didn't know how I knew, I just... knew. Even when Harry dated Cho Chang and Ron dated Lavender, I knew Harry-Ginny, and Ron-Hermione would be the ultimate pairings completely subconsciously.

In my twenties during college and reading dating magazines online, I learned that what creates attraction is sometimes different than what creates a platonic friendship. Harry and Hermione didn't have that sexual tension between them that Ron and Hermione did - that's why Ron and Hermione argued all the time. Their interaction reminds me of how some guys in my high school treated girls they were attracted to: they never confessed their attraction - instead they made fun of the girls, pulled their hairbands/pigtails, threw stuff at them, and plenty of other things. Humans are afraid of rejection so they don't put it all out there at first. Also, people want what they cannot get so if they feel like they can already "get" a guy/girl, there wouldn't be the challenge. Harry and Hermione never played the type of games that people do when they are attracted to one another. Harry always confided his inner thoughts to Hermione and treated her like one would a sister. I think it was that association between my high school life and the book that caused me to intuitively realize who would end up with who and I'm pretty proud of it in hindsight. I think Rowling probably recognized similar things in human nature and that's why she wrote the books that way.

What are your thoughts on Slytherin House?

#MakeTheWizardingWorldGreatAgain

What House do you think you would belong to?

Probably Ravenclaw. I was academically inclined as a kid/teen.

Rank the Harry Potter books in order of preference (and give an explanation for your favourite).

Oh, wow. I could go on forever so tomorrow.

Rank the Harry Potter movies in order of preference (and give an explanation for your favourite).

Same as the previous question.

If tomorrow, for whatever reason, you had to pack up all you things and move somewhere else in the U.S., where would you go and why?

Maine. I've always wanted to eat fresh lobsters.

What if you had to flee to another country?

The UK. I'd have a lot of fun watching sports like Soccer (the English Premier League - it's "football" there), and Cricket. Probably even participating.

Have you ever been suspended from school? If so, why?

Nope. I was the good guy. Never really been punished by teachers or authorities.

Have you ever been in love?

Not yet.

If you could go back to your first day of high school and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?

There's so much I'd want to say to pre-college self that I could go on for ages but this question is actually a bit harder.

I'd say, focus on sports and fitness a lot. Workout. You'll make a lot of friends that way (to be fair, I did play sports a lot in high school).

I grew up in the Arctic. Greenland sounded like the closest inhabited place that I could put down without feeling like I'm lying and without letting these humans know that I'm a polar bear.

Summer temperatures are cold. Lots of snow in the summer, and Orcas to worry about if I fall into the water. I hibernate through the winter so I have no idea what it's like.

I'm very impressed with how you learned to vote. I remember during my time as a voting moderator, your votes were at first removed but once you took the time to learn, everytime I saw a report of your vote, I knew that it would be sufficient.
