I think it really worked hard to elevate a genre (sci fi) often known for stunts or poor acting into art. While it had its fair share of gimmicks, the storyline was something that everyone could empathize with, the acting was good, the world they created was rich and fantastic, and there were important messages there relevant to the current world.

I'll talk about stuff I noticed from the JRNL debate. You could've done a better job of creating resolution-impacting arguments because IMO the burdens were pretty close. The value criterion for justice really didn't have much *evidence*, but it rather attempted to prove itself based on the perceptions of jurors. That's stuff I personally noticed, I don't know how much of it is actually sound observation XD.

How do you think I can improve as a debater?

From our jury debate, you need to make sure your arguments provide you unique offense, and that I cannot simply perm your case or your impacts or dismiss them as non-unique. You also conceded too much of my framework (law as integrity), and I am not really sure you knew how to handle it and/or how I wanted to use it. You never really rebutted the idea that the values were the law, more so than the actual written text...and I think that was an essential error. It is really, really important to understand the impact of the philosophical arguments, so that you can effectively address them. I think that was the area you struggled most. I think, finally, that you could flesh out your rebuttals a bit more--you could both add more arguments and add more depth to the arguments you make. Sometimes, your points feel repetitive or too short/underdeveloped/underwarranted.

You can come across a bit gruff sometimes, but I think that's your sense of humor and blunt style, rather than any intent to actually be gruff. You're a nice person, and you seem to care about people (from what I've seen) and that's nice. So, I like you, and consider you a friend on the site.

Probably me agreeing when my dad said that the Olympics had a lot of pretty girls.

In your opinion, what makes Avatar a good movie?

I think it really worked hard to elevate a genre (sci fi) often known for stunts or poor acting into art. While it had its fair share of gimmicks, the storyline was something that everyone could empathize with, the acting was good, the world they created was rich and fantastic, and there were important messages there relevant to the current world.
Besides it being a (good) showcase for 3D, and having some pretty damn impressive CGI (which isn't really surprising considering it's budget), it has a lot of problems. The biggest to me is despite having a pretty decent cast in regards to acting talent, they're actually pretty disappointing in Avatar (except for Sam Worthington, he's always been awful). The plot and message were also painfully simplistic, and Sam Worthington character's motivation to betray the humans doesn't make much sense.
What is your favorite non-rock album?
Either Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca or J Dilla - Donuts.

Haven't heard of any of those, lol...
I get that for Dirty Projectors, but J Dilla was huge.
