It has finally happened, I have reached 2000 posts. (I really wanted to get there before next week) Interestingly enough, it's also been almost two years since I joined.
So here it is, ask me (almost) anything about me, science or philosophy.

How disappointing. I saw meaning to the madness, and now I feel like a rabdomancer in search of water.

On a different note, you seem to be taking animal rights as a very serious issue. So do I, albeit from a different perspective. By extension, I'm a vegetarian. So I ask, are you?

What's an NHN?
I forgot. It meant something when I chose it, a pun of some kind, but I've lost track of it now. Something with noon and nexus. High noon, maybe.

Yeah... it's not exactly a sophisticated name by any means.

Peter Singer is a utilitarian. I'm a Kantian and include animals within a context of personhood that is unrelated to utility (http://plato.stanford.edu...).

By extension, I'm a vegetarian. So I ask, are you?

1. What doe the word "unlockable" mean?
Unable to be locked?
Able to be unlocked?
Neither?
Both?

2. If someone commanded you to ignore all of their commands, and you do, could you truthfully say that you ignored all of their commands, or is following the command to ignore their commands in contrast with ignoring their commands?

Conversely, if you choose *not* to ignore their command to "ignore all of their commands" are you really ignoring their commands?

3. Do you think space will keep expanding forever? Why/Why not?

4. Being that life, at its most basic, is the ability to metabolize energy and *auto* self-replicate, do you think that future robots that may have the ability to *auto* reproduce and "metabolize" electrical energy could be considered living beings?

5. Have you ever learned anything from my debates and HOM?

Honestly, the state of DDO philosophy greatly saddens me. Philosophy should be a communal activity; as Wittgenstein said, more or less, "The philosopher who does not debate is like the boxer who does not step into the ring."

Why do you believe that the philosophy section has so few high-quality users (compared to, say, Politics, even though the politics forum is a bit dismal itself...)?

Is it the depth required? The dedication to seeing arguments through to their conclusions? Is it just a lack of interest?

Glad to have you here, regardless.

I wouldn't call myself that, but it's sad to see how difficult it is to have a proper discussion on science and/or philosophy. I don't really expect people to present compelling responses when I start a thread. The purpose of most of them is to make me remember the argument better.

What is fkkize -- farkakte? Yiddish?

It was literally me smashing all of my fingers onto the keyboard when trying to find a username for a different site.

I thought it was a take on "F*ck is he" as in "Where the f*ck is he?"

At least I can pretend it is now

Honestly, the state of DDO philosophy greatly saddens me. Philosophy should be a communal activity; as Wittgenstein said, more or less, "The philosopher who does not debate is like the boxer who does not step into the ring."

Why do you believe that the philosophy section has so few high-quality users (compared to, say, Politics, even though the politics forum is a bit dismal itself...)?
I suppose it's because philosophy is generally not on people's minds and I imagine many think it's about profane questions like whether the egg or the hen came first.

Is it the depth required? The dedication to seeing arguments through to their conclusions? Is it just a lack of interest?
Lack of interest. I suppose it's the same problem mathematics has: people are not shown how beautiful it can be, so they don't care about it.

Glad to have you here, regardless.
Thanks, same goes for you.

Honest opinion?
I very much enjoy talking to you. You are one of the smartest guys around here and I am always surpised by the arguments you manage to dig up. I wish our conversations would last longer, but I take it, I am not always the most calm debater.
I believe the tension between your families beliefs and yours burden you to some extend, but that gets better as one becomes more and more independent.
You got a great taste in music.

Dishonest opinion?
Your maymays suck bull balls.

You can erase one book, one movie, and one TV series from your memory. What will they be?

I don't read bad books.
Any transformers movie (yes, for whatever reason I saw like three of them).
Desperate Housewifes. 10 year old me thought this was a good show.

I know, I left out some people, but I am exhausted and I'll definitely get back to you tomorrow.

Okay, Who the flying fvck decided that the sphinctoral muscles leading into the stomach should be called the cardiac sphincter?

plz, scienceman, I need teh answer.
Because it is located near the cardia?

But it's connected to the esophagus, esophagial sphincter would have been a better name.
