My picture has been of Thomas Paine for quite some time, but I feel as if I should retire it.

Post suggestions for a picture of any notable philosopher, economist, thinker, etc. from the West (meaning Europe or the U.S. and Canada) that I should change my picture to.

Some examples would be Bastiat, Friedman, Locke, etc.

Uther, if you post that I should change it to Marx, I am going to flame you very discretely in the hangouts.

Sam Harris is always a good pick.

If you want something a little more classical, I think Schopenhauer might be a good fit for your personality, or maybe Karl Popper or Leo Strauss.

Actually, what might really fit with your trolling routine would be Carl Schmitt.

I'm not a troll, and I already picked Jefferson.

You should change your picture to Chairman Mao. Forget Marx. The Cultural Revolution is where it's at!

(kidding, obvs.)

But really, you should post a picture of something that is meaningful to you as your profile pic. So, the question is.... what matters to you?

Do you really care so much about some dead dude's ideas that you want to put his face on your profile? (I sure don't.)

But really.... what do you actually care about? What truly matters to you? What is important?

Or, in the alternative, what do you think represents you for who and what you are? Why? Why that, and not other things?

I went with mountains, in a black and white picture. I think there is nothing more representative of me than that.

All good options. Sam Harris and I could be very good friends.
