Okay, so when I was little, anytime my siblings or I would ask something like "where are we going?" Or " where's Mom?" My dad would jokingly answer, " Jamaica." Therefore, I thought Jamaica was a made up place.
Anyone else have similar stories?

Lol, my mom once tried to convince my sister and I that she could understand every language, and would tell us random crap whenever some foreign station or channel came on

Just by repeatedly telling her she was. No reason, just as a joke. It lasted awhile... and now they still needle her about it haha :P

Lol.

I'm taking Spanish 1 this year (and it's really boring, lol) and whenever I want to say "thank you" my mind immediately goes to Russian instead of Spanish.

Lol. Spanish is wonderful. I was blessed with a great teacher, though. That might not be the case for you.

The thing is, I'm really good at it, just naturally, I guess. It's incredibly annoying to have to go over things I already understand 5,000 times so the rest of the class can get it.

Same here, actually. I guess it doesn't bother me too much because my teacher kept moving. There's a point at which a teacher just needs to move on -- the kids that don't get it just aren't willing to put forth the effort. I'm in Spanish 3 now, so it's a little better in that regard. It's a more no-nonsense class :)

There are some kids who are putting effort they're just still slower than me. Some of it is effort, some of it is a natural grasp on language.

I had the option to take French or Spanish last year but I chose to take theater instead. It was fun, but taking a language might have been a better idea.

But I also feel like I would've regretted not taking theater, since it's something I really like and had been doing for all of Middle School already.

Privyet.

Lol.

I'm taking Spanish 1 this year (and it's really boring, lol) and whenever I want to say "thank you" my mind immediately goes to Russian instead of Spanish.

Lol. Spanish is wonderful. I was blessed with a great teacher, though. That might not be the case for you.

I like Spanish.

There are some kids who are putting effort they're just still slower than me. Some of it is effort, some of it is a natural grasp on language.

Oh, yes, that's definitely true. I'm just explaining that my teacher, for one, knew when to move on.
Mine doesn't.

That's unfortunate.

I'm in Spanish 3 now, so it's a little better in that regard. It's a more no-nonsense class :)

That's good.
I had the option to take French or Spanish last year but I chose to take theater instead. It was fun, but taking a language might have been a better idea.

Yeah. Ah, yeah. Foreign languages are very valuable.

But I also feel like I would've regretted not taking theater, since it's something I really like and had been doing for all of Middle School already.

That's likely true. My English teacher this year has emphasized the importance of taking classes you enjoy that can benefit what you'd like to do in the future versus the lack of importance taking hard classes to improve your GPA/class rank.

My history teacher said something along the same lines, about not doing extracurriculars you hate just for a college resume.
Besides being frustrated at the speed of my Spanish class, I don't regret taking Theater. It was really fun.

Okay, so when I was little, anytime my siblings or I would ask something like "where are we going?" Or " where's Mom?" My dad would jokingly answer, " Jamaica." Therefore, I thought Jamaica was a made up place.
Anyone else have similar stories?

My family would do a similar thing when I was a kid. Instead of Jamaica though, it was "Honolulu". I'd ask them where we'd be going, and they'd say "Honolulu" lol. I also used to think it was a made up place because of how ridiculous the name of the place sounds.

If I didn't finish my dinner, my mother would tell me that 'there are starving kids in Japan', so I was under the impression that Japan was a third world country for a while.

Actually that's Australia :P

Sure. They said I was going to Jamaica. Paradis Island. It looked more like Vegas with a beach. The weed was terrible, but the cocaine was great. Yeah. Vegas. Maybe Jamaica never did exist.
