I have recently been in an emotional rut. I have faced a rather large amount of change, and, being the introvert with some form of social anxiety that I am, I have not taken too well to it. On the outside, I am fine. In my academic performance, a-okay. But I am emotionally unstable right now. I have been really missing my sister. She and I were the closest two siblings could get, except for besides me and my twin brother, who is by far the person I am closest to.

I digress. It has been almost 6 months since I was removed from my home and eventually placed in foster care. My family has turned their back on me, and so I have been trying to slowly find people in my life to fill the gaps they left. All I really have kept is my brother and my friends, and I would still hope my sister, who I have been unable to talk to.

God only knows what she thinks of all of this. I pray each night that she still loves me, and that she hasn't turned away like every other person who had some sort of significance in my life.

The last few days have been especially tough on me, with my stress levels from school also weighing in on my mind and body. On three separate occasions in the past four days, I have literally just broken down and cried. I bottle up my feelings, and becuase of that, the littlest random things break me. For instance, my sister used to say "I can't school" when she was struggling with an assignment. Yesterday, this girl I am currently talking to said that when I was helping her with homework. I held it together long enough for me to I come up with an excuse to go to my room and then get inside it.

I have recently discovered two songs, which were intoduced to me by my brother, that make me think about my family, especially my sister, my current situation in life, and what all I've been through over the last few years or months or weeks. These songs accurately describe how I feel, and so I have decided that it is time for the DDO community to see a more personal side of me and understand a part of who I am.

You guys may not like the sound of them, but I very much encourage that you just listen to the lyrics. Here are the songs, both by a band named XXI:

"Wasn't Enough:"
https://www.youtube.com...

"Without You:"
https://www.youtube.com...

The first one makes me think about my life and family in general, but the second one is specific to my sister, dad, and the memories I have of them. Every time I hear the second one, I cry.

So, now that I've opened up and written a little bit about myself, provided at least one song describing how I feel, and provided context andd meaning, I would very much appreciate if you would do the same. I'm not the ever-happy VoT that I am on DDO or the quiet, yet enaging Elliot in Hangouts. This is more of who I really am on a day-to-day basis. This is a part of the real me. Not that what I my profile reflects or how I act in Hangouts aren't a part of how I am , it is simply that this saide of me is currently much more prominent -- an emotionally unstable person longing for acceptance and love.

Nah I'm good fam, but thanks. The purpose of this thread is to post songs that very well articulate how you are currently feeling.

A bit of context. I recently just went through a break up with my girlfriend. It is now six days before our one year anniversary. I've been an emotional wreck but found someone who cares for me. The first one is about said person and the second one is about my feelings towards my now ex.

So a while back, probably a little over a year ago, I remember reading something (can't remember what anymore) that gave me some strange butterfly-stomach feelings (not from nervousness, but something else, probably because it was a sad, dark story). It was something that I couldn't really recall feeling before, and it was always on my mind, to the point where several times, even if I just thought about it, it would bring my cold, stone heart down a bit and I remember coming close to crying about it a few times, and at one point there was a line in the read that somehow brought me to tears (though it wasn't like straight up crying, more like a tear up, need to wipe my eyes a few times tbh).

For some reason, whenever I read it, a song kept playing in my head, one that I hadn't really heard but a few times before. It was this: https://soundcloud.com...
And for some reason, that song made me feel better instantly. This may not be some story about my life and a tragedy, but I like this song and felt like sharing it since I once used it to cheer myself up.

Along with that would be the musical box version of Edelweiss from The Sound of Music, as well as Open Window by Mitis (https://www.youtube.com...), O'er the Flood (https://soundcloud.com...), Breathe by TwoThirds (this is mainly b/c of osu!, but whatever) (https://soundcloud.com...), and Monody by TheFatRat (https://www.youtube.com...)

I'll think of more later.

Dear Elliot,

I think that first you should know that the people here including myself are always here to listen. As I said before, if you ever feel upset or anything, you can always ask me to play something on the piano and send it to you. I'll definitely find time no matter how busy to do that.

Secondly, you shouldn't think that everyone thinks that you're really always happy and positive all the time. Nobody is, even Vaarka, who has probably one of the best sense of humours on this site and seems to always be bright. Nobody's life is perfect even if they don't show it. So we understand.

Third, you should, or shall I say, NEED to be strong. Of course your family will always love you, no matter what happened in the past. No matter what happened in the past (this sentence is important so I had to repeat it twice). Do the best you can right now or you may regret it. My advice would be to focus immensely on your education and eventually get a good job. Your parents wanted the best for you, they thought that they were doing the right thing and planning both you and your brother's life very carefully and thoughtfully- and they were. They wanted it so badly that it made them mad when (...). I'm not sure 'exactly' what your situation was like but if you don't think what you did was bad, then I'm sure everyone will understand, eventually if not already. I know it's definitely not as easy as saying "oh be a man Elliot, stop crying and get on with it". But in a funny way, you really do need to conquer your pain, be determined and have a plan.

I don't think it's right for me not to suggest some music to you so here goes.

Music that has made me cry in the past:

Schindler's List Theme
You can here Perlman's (if that's how you spell it) pain throughout the piece, especially seeing as he is a Jew and knows how much people *suffered* during the Holocaust. If you don't feel a deep pain inside you (near where your stomach is), then I declare that the person has no music sense at all.
https://m.youtube.com...

Opera- Rigoletto by Verdi
I'm not sure if you can find a good version of it on YT but if you're interested, I can try and look for one.

Rach Concerto no.2
This is a piece where Rachmaninov looks back on his years of depression and his overcoming of it. The piece shows the torment he went through and I think this can be heard especially at the climax (6:40- 7 minutes something) as well as the quiet sections following it where it's as if he cannot go on any further. This was the best version I could find. (It's just the first movement). If you want to listen to it, start from the beginning or you won't feel it.
https://m.youtube.com...

Chopin Ballade no.1
One of my favourite pieces of all time. NOBODY plays it better than Martha Argerich.
https://m.youtube.com...

I don't exactly want to just give you sad pieces to make you feel even more upset, so here's another list of good music:

Foggy Dew
This tells the story of the Irish 1916 Rising, one of the most significant events of our history where the Irish fought for independence from the British.
https://m.youtube.com...

Queen of the Night :)
https://m.youtube.com...

Papageno
https://m.youtube.com...

Finghin Collins, who has given me the best advice on Mozart :) this was when he was around your age so it's not a great recording
https://m.youtube.com...

One of my favourite Chinese songs
https://m.youtube.com...

I've got loads more so feel free to ask if you need another list.

Finally, I've said this already but you need to know that regardless of all the times you've slept badly, felt a throbbing in your head, felt as if you were about to throw up because there was a merciless weight inside you, you can always find people to talk to here.

So smile because it makes you look very handsome :) you can do this! One day, your parents will be so proud of you.

Oh sorry, I didn't read the part where you said to post songs/pieces to describe our own feelings.

I'm feeling relatively normal right now, DDO-wise, I'm extremely curious to see whether my team or warren's team has won the debate :) I am also mildly annoyed at Biodome for not being online in a while.

So here's a piece to describe that:
Prokofiev Sonata op.14 2nd movement
https://m.youtube.com...

I really refrain from talking about my personal life here, especially in public threads but here's a piece I think would describe my life/feelings at the moment:
https://m.youtube.com...

I'll leave that to your own interpretation of what I might mean.

Kinda unrelated but I think everything looks beautiful at a distance, whether it's someone's life or even a scenery from the airplane :) Not trying to be all pessimistic but things start to look ugly the closer you get.

I always love the song Old Man River:

I think it captures modern anomie perfectly. The meaningless toil, the emptiness, the broken relationships in an ever more materialist world, and the yearning for something simpler and older, more focused on human life and fulfillment, and rooted in tradition and the natural world. The lines 'I get weary, and sick of trying, I'm tired of living, but scared of dying' always hit me like a ton of bricks, and Judy Garland really does justice to the song.
"The Collectivist experiment is thoroughly suited (in appearance at least) to the Capitalist society which it proposes to replace. It works with the existing machinery of Capitalism, talks and thinks in the existing terms of Capitalism, appeals to just those appetites which Capitalism has aroused, and ridicules as fantastic and unheard-of just those things in society the memory of which Capitalism has killed among men wherever the blight of it has spread."

They played this song at an ending ceremony at Philmont. We had gotten back to base camp earlier that day after spending 10 days out on the trail. I loved it, because it just fit so well with what we had all just done. We'd hiked over 80 miles with packs on (over 100 if you include times when we weren't carrying our packs), climbed mountains in an altitude that far surpassed anything that I'd ever experienced, and played a ton of card games. Beautiful and breathtaking views, wonderful stops, great people who greeted us and played the part of mountainers, railroad builders, etc (Metcalf Station, Ponil, and Miranda come to mind). One of the best memories in my life, and this song seals it in my mind for what I hope to be the rest of my life.

I liked it :) I added it to my spotify playlist. Thanks man. I may take you up on that offer soon.

I've heard this :) I like it, even though D&B isn't my thing.

I've hear of the one by TheFatRat. The others, not so much lol, but I still liked them.

Dear Elliot,

I think that first you should know that the people here including myself are always here to listen. As I said before, if you ever feel upset or anything, you can always ask me to play something on the piano and send it to you. I'll definitely find time no matter how busy to do that.

Thanks. :)

Secondly, you shouldn't think that everyone thinks that you're really always happy and positive all the time. Nobody is, even Vaarka, who has probably one of the best sense of humours on this site and seems to always be bright. Nobody's life is perfect even if they don't show it. So we understand.

Well, that's pretty much how I portray myself. I try to stay positive, but sometimes I'm just like "nope not today fam" and become withdrawn. Thanks understanding.

I'm usually not bothered by what I experience in life, and for the most part conquer it easily and stay focused. Not to say that I'm not focused right now, I am, but it just gets hard sometimes.

Yes, this is an amazing piece. It goes very well with the movie. I love the sound of the violin here.

Opera- Rigoletto by Verdi
I'm not sure if you can find a good version of it on YT but if you're interested, I can try and look for one.

I'll see what I can do.

I've heard this one before too. My dad is very much into classical music, or was at one point. That is all we ever listened to for a short time span.

Chopin Ballade no.1
One of my favourite pieces of all time. NOBODY plays it better than Martha Argerich.
https://m.youtube.com...

Beautiful as well. :)

I like these. I'll take you up on that offer sometime.

From me (and everyone else)

Thank you :)

Lol I like it. :)

I really refrain from talking about my personal life here, especially in public threads but here's a piece I think would describe my life/feelings at the moment:
https://m.youtube.com...

I usually do too, but sometimes I just let the words flow. But w/e. I liked this piece. I would say things sound pretty decent in your life right now.

I'll leave that to your own interpretation of what I might mean.

Kinda unrelated but I think everything looks beautiful at a distance, whether it's someone's life or even a scenery from the airplane :) Not trying to be all pessimistic but things start to look ugly the closer you get.

This is true. But sometimes you do have to get close to see the beauty in something, especially someone.

It's a beautiful song. I've never heard it before, but it kinda hits home with me. It's got some strong lyrics.

I tend to like more energetic and loud songs where the lyrics dominate like the two in this post, whereas most of the songs posted here are quieter and have more balance.
