What do you plan on doing with that degree?

I ask because your current enjoyment of your work could say a lot about how you will (or won't) enjoy the career path ahead of you.

I don't see a history degree in particular being more useful than others. I want the degree because I hear that having any college degree at all will boost your chances of employment just about everywhere. Furthermore, there's the prestige that comes with having a college degree, and the prospect of not being taken seriously if I'm 40 and I don't have one.

You can look up salary statistics for various degrees- do that and you will quickly see that some degrees are more useful than others.

How are you financing your education? Are you using student loans?

There is no prestige from having a college degree. Anyone worth caring about wont give two sh*ts whether you have a degree or not, but most people really do not care. All that matters is whether the degree makes you more marketable, increases your earning power, and helps you achieve your goals.

Trust me, don't go through the motions with college. Do your research and figure out if you are making a good investment or not. There are huge opportunity costs with attending college, as well as the obvious financial costs.

If you are not passionate about a given major, figure out what major will make you the most money and study that. I'm speaking from life experience- college is an investment, do not take it lightly.

My state has something called TOPS. Basically under TOPS people who made a good enough score on the ACT (my 26 qualified) would have their college tuition paid for. Due to state budget cuts I'm not gonna get TOPS starting next semester, but I've already had a fairly big chunk of it paid for. Changing my degree to anything else would extend the amount of time and money that I'll have to spend towards finishing my college education.
I actually do have something of a dream, and I could further this dream through changing my major to something medical but I simply don't have what it takes to get a degree in the medical field. I just don't. I know next to nothing about medicine or anatomy.
What I'm good at is politics, and any degree will help me in this field, since trying to run for political office without a college degree would seriously backfire.

Seriously! Got a 31 on my ACT (with a perfect score in math) and only have one year covered by scholarships (FAFSA provided no help at all). Not to mention the skyrocketing college tuition. I'm not hating on you or anything, but man you have it good)
