One of my favorite sayings is..

"The mind is like a parachute, it doesn't work unless it is open"

What do you think it means to have an open mind?

What do you think it means to have a closed mind?

Do you agree with that saying?

Yes, I very much agree.

To have an open mind is to accept the idea that the world isn't black and white, and views can't always be "right" or "wrong". It is to love all people equally, and have no preconceived notions or prejudices about the ideas or lifestyle of another. To have a closed mind is just the opposite.

This video pretty much sums up my views.

I like to think I have an open-mind. I do take the time to explore other ideas before dismissing them completely. I have been called close-minded in the past though, no idea why. :/

Lol... Richard Dawkins is the last person who should suggest having an open mind. And, what's too open? I think an open mind is simply being biased toward logical sense. To analyze an argument and be able to objectively call it a sound idea or not a sound idea without the handicap of emotion.

I thought you were after opinions? Threads, unsurprisingly, contain multiple instances of those in a handy packaged format. :P

I have my own opinion on open mindedness, and it isn't changing.(lul)

There is a difference between being open minded and being gullible, fo'sho.

What do you think it means to have an open mind?

What do you think it means to have a closed mind?

Do you agree with that saying?:

To a point, sure. But there's another saying: Some people are so open-minded their brains fell out.

Of course that saying is interchangeable with just about anything. The allusion is still the same. If you're open-minded for the sake of itself, then you would perpetually be sitting on the fence. That might be a safe position, but it's also a disingenuous one too.

The safe position isn't necessarily the right position, or as the saying goes, "a ship is safe in the harbour, but that's not what ships are for."
