It appears to me that this a pattern, among others, inherent in the universe on many different levels; that things will grow to the extent that they destroy themselves.

The state of human affairs grew worse and worse during the Cold War and it never turned around until the world was actually on the brink of it destroying itself.

The stock market will grow and grow until it creates a bubble that is sure to eventually pop. This is called the "boom and bust effect". The economy was at it's best right before the great depression and it was at it's best right before the current recession.

If building pressure is sustainted, there will eventually be an explosion, reducing the pressure to zero.

Life eventually evolves to an extent which results in the creation of technology which eliminates death, the cause of evolution. When the time line for evolution and the time line for such technology is compared, it's definitely a boom and bust.

I think humanity is going to handle global warming in the same way we handled the Cold War. We will be on the brink of destruction before we actually reverse it.

The expansion of the universe should eventually result in "The Big Rip".

Discuss.

Entropy.

The subject is more specific than entropy. Not just a decrease in something but a gradual growth followed by a sudden destruction.
