Slavery is a prime example of this. Some utilitarians claim that rule utiliatarianism solves for this, but rule utilitarianism often collapses into act utilitarianism.

what if McCain won his first term, had a republican congress changed the tax code and fixed the economy. (he wouldn't have fixed the debt as he liked spending) that's my what if. Btw don't say he wold have died, he is still alive today.

We have a plethora of conundrums.

I lol'd.

Then according to utilitarianism we should not believe in utilitarianism and absent utilitarianism then we have no reason not to believe in utilitarianism.

Wait what ?

...Gustavus Adolphus had won the Thirty Years War for Sweden, instead of being killed in combat?

Prussia's dominance in Europe would have been prevented, since that was part of the territory he was fighting for; Bismark might never have had the chance to unite Germany. France, Sweden, and Russia would have been the leading powers in Europe during the time when the World Wars happened; and so they might not have happened at all.

Without a strong German government, the Bolshevik Revolution might never have happened in Russia; the Communist Internationals might have had their biggest success in the Paris Communes, and no more. The destruction of two world wars might have been avoided, and most of the world better off.

A lot rode with the Swedish King in the battle of Lützen...

Yes, thank you. Some people got it. No reason philosophy can't be humorous. Especially if you've seen History of the World, Part I.

Other than thousands of people dying, buildings blown up, and billions of dollars being wasted on weapory and destruction. But other than that, yeah war is cool.

I'm suggesting that it's ok to troll when someone makes it too easy. 16k didn't fall for it, though. :)
