Empiricism: knowledge is gained by a posteriori percepts, dependent on sense experience.

Rationalism: knowledge is gained by a priori concepts, independent of sense experience.

Are you an empiricist or rationalist or both and why?

And about Kant, why is it that his 12 (as opposed to the Aristotelian 10) categories are the same 12 in all humans if rationalism weren't fundamental to his revolutionary epistemology?

You're right, here's are some nice wiki article's explaining the difference in categories,

Aristotle's
http://en.wikipedia.org...(Aristotle)

Kant's
http://en.wikipedia.org...(Kant)

These are meant to be exhaustive categories of predicates or subjects that a human can use to give a taxonomy.

There's some a prior knowledge and there is some a posteriori knowledge.

Both"because they aren"t mutually exclusive concepts, they aren"t cognitively self-referential, they are two corresponding aspects of thought, referential to each other and transactional in nature.

There aren't many places where we can actually do this effectively, but I think we've found our Nietzsche.
