Topic: "We can usually learn much more from people whose views we share than from those whose views contradict our own."
I've just started to white an essay and realized that I don't have any ideas about the topic. OK, I agree that progress requires discussion, I can also provide some examples (from the history of science/ from the history of some states ). But I don't have any logical scheme to prove this idea. Please help me with directions

People obviously need some previous knowledge of something to be able to make connections to the new thing - if an idea was completely foreign you wouldn't be able to associate or empathize so you can't learn to the fullest extent. Also, if we share views then you're more interested in the topic and hence more inclined to understand the topic.
