Am I the only one that is annoyed by this circular reasoning fallacy? "That's the way it is." is not a valid reason. One begs the question as to why it is the way it is.

Yes they do. If someone makes a statement, they need to back it up with facts. Saying "That's the way it is." without supporting it with factual reasons is the circular reason fallacy and begs the question as to why it is the way it is. Saying it usually means that the person has no factual argument.

I am not begging the question. It is a commonly known fact in the debate world that people need to back up their claims with proof and facts. Circular reasoning is a logical fallacy.

Why do they need to back up what they say?

If they want you to believe and agree with them it would appear rational for them to provide evidence and reason, but that's not what I think you're saying...

It sounds like you are suggesting they have to provide evidence in order to be permitted to 'hold' such an opinion. Of course it's different if they expect you to change your opinion to match theirs.

You did not include in your OP that the person saying this to you was doing so in a debate. This changes the context considerably. Though it would most likely end in them losing anyway.

Some things have to be the way they are; they couldn't be any other way. Therefore, asking why they are that way and not another way would be a non-sense question, like asking why red is a color.
