How can the mind be an organ exactly?

Actually, the brain is an organ, the mind is simply the workings and results of the brain.

That can't be right. The ear captures sound, converts into an electrical impulse, and sends the signal to the brain where through some voodoo it is perceived by the mind. So all conscious experience, whether it be thought, sound, sight, emotion, or whatever, happen in the mind.

Why believe that? The brain and the mind correlate well with each other, but that doesn't mean the mind is the result of the brain.

It isn't just "voodoo", it appears impossible. If there exists a physical and non-mental reality then it couldn't even interact with the mind as the two would be too metaphysically distinct. You have one world of blind and mindless waves, particles, atoms, space, gravity and what have you, and a world of immaterial thoughts, emotions, feelings, and perceptions. The two trying to interact would seem to be analogous to a man who only knows Chinese trying to understand what a man who only knows English is yelling. The interaction won't work as they aren't "speaking the same language".
