I'm in a debate with someone about whether or not this can be called an opinion. We would like to get some other people weighing in on this. So, two questions:

Before looking up the definition of opinion, would you say that it was/is an opinion to believe the Earth is flat?

Would your answer change after looking up the definitions?

These are the first six dictionaries on Google:

FIrst definition on MerriamWebster: a belief, judgment, or way of thinking about something : what someone thinks about a particular thing

Fist definition on a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.

First definition on A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof.

2nd definition on Oxford: The beliefs or views of a large number or majority of people about a particular thing

2nd definition on Cambridge: a thought or belief about something or someone.

2nd definition on WordCentral: a belief based on experience and on seeing certain facts that falls short of positive knowledge.

We would appreciate it if you could also vote with your answer here:

It is an opinion. What else would you call it? Just because it is an opinion, it does not necessitate that it is true.
