So...

I haven't debated in awhile. I've been caught up in other things, not to mention school decided to kick my @ss around for a while as well. I'm hoping that I could jump start and get some debates rolling again - maybe that will wake me from my hibernation (mostly due to laziness, really).

If anyone has a strong philosophical position they are willing to defend, would they mind posting it here? With enough detailed information for me to actually phrase a resolution (and get a grasp of what the hell I'm up against). You could tailor the positions you choose to be ones opposed to mine - in fact, that would be even better. I don't mind playing devil's advocate though.

I could do one of those debate series I had going on, but frankly...I'm lazy as hell.

Just think of this as if he is bumping your thread instead of doing something completely worthless.

The Christian God Does Not Exist

Me as pro.
I am voting for Innomen because of his intelligence, common sense, humility and the fact that Juggle appears to listen to him. Any other Presidential style would have a large sub-section of the site up in arms. If I was President I would destroy the site though elitism, others would let it run riot. Innomen represents a middle way that works, neither draconian nor anarchic and that is the only way things can work. Plus he does it all without ego trips.

I've been wanting to debate something along the lines of "Social contract theory justifies government" for a while now (I'd be Con). I don't really have detailed information about the resolution, since my position would just be that whatever you're saying is wrong. I'd be fine debating against any of the social contract arguments out there, or a bunch of them at once, whatever you want.

Or something like this: http://www.debate.org... (although that's more of an economic debate than a philosophical one).

I'm guessing Badger has that in reservation now? If I were to take this position, I would like to constrain the resolution to some omnipotent being (in other words, God without the Christian tradition). The reason is, it would take full effort and character limits to argue for an unidentified supreme creator; to show he is the Christian god would take further augmentation likely different from the one I used to argue for an unidentified supreme creator. Unless I appeal

I would enjoy this - as we speak, I'm enrolled in a social/political philosophy class exclusively dealing with social contract theory ^^.

There are reasons why I specifically defined it as the Christian God!

Great! I wish I had a class like that. Send me the challenge whenever.
