The French (once the most liberal bunch of humans on the planet) are now joint Germany in hoping to convince ALL fellow EU nations to adopt BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENTS. They are tired of picking up the slack for nations like Greece who cannot control their spending addiction. Fiscal conservatism is finally proving to be a necessity rather than a just a good idea.

Balanced Budget amendment doesn't necessarily correspond to limited government. You can have revenues be 100% of salary the government spend 100% of the revenues and it would still be a balanced budget.

Hello Handsoff! Long time no see!

Regarding your post, during the same meeting, Merkel and Sarkozy agreed to push for the introduction of an EU-wide "Tobin Tax" – a tax on every trade on the financial markets. That's not quite so Tea Party.

Less government spending the less money they have to spend on enslaving us. It costs a lot of money and labor to enslave people. Balanced budgets at least make it harder for fascist governments to spend money on guns and cages.

But spending money on guns and cages creates jobs.

Balanced budget amendment doesn't reduce government spending, it just reduces government deficit. Big difference.

This. And, keep in mind that this was all after Germany and France agreed on a few bailouts, which is hardly Tea Party material. Oh yeah, and the French/German economies are quite socialist in comparison to the US.

I think it is amusing that no-one really believes socialist nations can be fiscally responsible. Like it is a given....
