Do you prefer any system to democracy/Republicanism?
Think'st thou heaven is such a glorious thing?

Or any man that breathes on earth.

Ah, so you're on the ancap side of libertarianism. I'm a (loosely) statist libertarian.

What point are you trying to make? All it shows is that humans are highly fallible, which is not a secret.

The real question is whether it's the exception, not the rule.

I would say the rule... Pretty much every totalitarian dictator was originally supported by the majority...

Remember though that one of the oft overlooked ideas is that, in a democratic society, the people have the right to revolution, when their rights have been trampled.

I appreciate the point you're trying to make but your equivocation is hurting my brain.

As far as I remember, Hitler was never supported by the majority (i'm sure the highest vote tally was in the high thirties percent region), but so what? Democracy says absolutely nothing about the rightness or wrongness of any govt just because they have majority support. Rather, it is a process which is seen as the best available, because political legitimacy is gained from the governed, and surely if we are certain of anything, it is that democratic societies are unequivocally better than the alternatives?

No, political legitimacy is gained from whoever has the most votes... That is very different...

and if the DDO election has shown us anything, voter run governments are a fraud anyway.

Even in a small environment like this where basically everyone who wished to run could be respected as a candidate, certain runners are not even acknowledged as running.

Yeah, democracy is a sham.

But you know, all governments are just games that people play anyway. People take their games too seriously. That isn't what life is about.

He was appointed... He lost the presidential elections to conservative Paul Von Hindenburg who ran as a non-party participant.

Hitler was appointed chancellor reluctantly by Hindenburg, who was pressured into it by various groups.

The position of chancellor was relatively powerless, and when Hindenburg died in office, Hitler declared himself Führer.

No, Nazis won 44% of the vote, a strong plurality... Hitler, as party leader, got control...

No DanT is correct. the NSDAP was however the largest party and held the most seats in the Reichstag.
